Axle widths
Can someone please help me,
I know that the Cortina axle is about 2 inches wider than the Sierra.
But how wide is the Sierra axle compared to the Escort.
I am trying to work out how much wider i have to make the front wishbones to fit Sierra running gear into a McSorley +442 as it is a standard locost
front end but 4 inch wider at the back.
Any help would be most appreciated

I think the sierra is 7" wider than the escort but I stand to be corected.

Pretty sure that:
Sierra is 4" wider than Escort.
Cortina is 4" wider than Escort.
So make your lower wishbones 2" longer (each!!!).
Obviously the BJ off-set is different Sierra/Cortina front upright so your tops wishbones will be longer still.

As per haynes manuals escort front track is 49.5" with 12 inch wheels and 50" with 13 inch wheels. Sierra front track is 57.2".
The "book" wishbones are for cortina uprights though I think? So I guess it isn't just a case of adding 3.5" to each one.
That said I don't suppose it's necessary or even necessarily preferable to have the same track as the sierra did?

Track width isn't the same as axle width ---Cortina track width will be for the narrowest steel wheels fitted to the 1300.
Escort rear axle is 48" accross the axle tube 53" across the brake drums.
The Cortina is 52" across the tube, 57" across the drums.
Cortina and Sierra rears are roughly the same width.
A 442 chassis is 4" wider than standard --- so only mods required are those to accomodate the different king pin incliation on the sierra ---
make the lower wishbone longer use book top.

As BT says, Sierra/Cortina basically the same.
Evidence of this being that the 2" narrower GTS wings fit my 4" wider car with Sierra axle!
So it must be 4" difference between Escort/Sierra.

Hi be warned tho a car with the cortina or sierra rear width and std book front will not handel at all well research the westfield sdv and problems
with that.
