Steaming Crossflow
Hi All
Just road tested Locost after taking the head off and re lapping No 2 exhaust valve (low compression).
I did not drain the water out of the engine completely and I think some must have found its way into the sump. Hence steam coming out of the rocker
filler cap. What should I do?
Drain oil and refill with new or let it boil away?

If there is a lot of water in there it will emulsify with the oils and look milky (probably like mayonnaise on the filler cap too) If this is the case
an oilchange is definitely needed. If there is only a little bit of water it should just boil off after a few miles.

The filler cap looks normal.
So it should boil off after a good run.

Wouldn't leave it too long though. Currently you've got water in your nice shiny engine bits

Drain it and change the filter before running the engine again --- water goes to thr bottom of the sump where the oil pump suction is.

Yep I know the feeling well...I had a leaking inlet gasket on my granada, (3.0L essex V6 )
In my haste to change it one sunday morning, I whipped off the inlet manifold without draining the rad. Needless to say it gurgled merrily past the
camshaft on its way to the sump.
What I did was undo the sump plug just enough to allow the water to drip out, took 'bout 45 min or so, then tightened up and ran the motor till
it was nice an hot.
I changed the oil filter bout a week later for peace of mind though

Alternatively, buy a blue and white striped cap and bib and brace overalls.
Tell them about the bent treacle edges!

To be on the safe side I drained the oil last night and will pick up a new filter and oil today.
