donor registration details

Hi there , can some one tell me if my car will have to be a Q plate or what i can do to avoid it , i bought a locost part built . based on a ford escort mk2.

When i got it the engine and running gear was all ready fitted so i had no doner car document , is it just the cas of byeing an old scrap car and using the detail of its log book or is it not that easy

Thanks for reading

Hope you can help

if you buy a scrap car the engine numbers won't tally so you will need to get it changed on the V5 i think.

yea send the V5 of stating you have put the engine from your kit into your doner, then the V5 will come back with the correct details!

As always thats just one way you can do it!!!!

does the donor car on the document have to be able to take the engine or does it not matter , i.e does the donor car on the docs have to be a rear wheel drive or can it be any car .

Does that make sense

should do if the above is read

Cheers all

You don't have to use the engine from a donor to qualify for an age related plate - all you need is a V5 for a vehicle whose major parts you have used.

The 'Built Up Vehicle Inspection Report' V627/1, list major components for a car as;

Chassis/Body Shell
Axles
Transmission
Steering Assembly
Engine
Suspension (front and back)

You only need to use 2 of the above to qualify for an age related plate, although the more you use, the better chance you have. We have a motorbike engine fitted and listed the Axles, Transmission and Steering Assembly from the Sierra.

Good enough for an age related plate

Phil

You don't have to change the engine number as long as you don't claim it to have come from the donor and as has already been stated you only need to claim to use 2 or 3 of the following
Chassis/Body Shell
Axles
Transmission
Steering Assembly
Engine
Suspension (front and back)

So you don’t need the engine.
