Oil cooled GSX-R engines?
Hello forum,
This is my first post and probably not my last!
Has anybody run an oil cooled gixer engine yet? I have an 1127 thats been heavily modded (1400 cc turbo 245 bhp.... he he..) Having bent the bike
quite well .. ahem. Im seriously thinking about building a locost and using the motor in that. I want to build the spaceframe myself, pretty much
like the book, but Id like to incorporate a cosworth 7in LSD IRS rear end too. So, has anyone got plan revisions to take the IRS setup? And maybe some
pointers to get the motor in?
Many thanks and merry Xmas..

Don't know if anyone has done an oil cooled gixer or not, but I dont see why it couldn't be done, maybe increase the oil cooler size and
stick it out on the normal radiator mounts, and channel some additional airflow past the engine and vent it out the sides?
Worth a shot, especially with a well modded unit, would be fun
Cheers

I'm building a locost with a 1127 gixxer engine and 7" xr4x4 IRS. The engine fits but you'll need to modify the clutch slave
cylinder slightly and fit a mahoosive oil cooler.
If there's anything specific you want to know just ask!
Lots of pictures here.

Thanks phelspa and ecosse . On the airflow side of things I think you're right. Maybe panel some ducting at the front and maybe make a venturi
floor to speed airflow up a bit more. Im having a good peep at your pics too.
Hows about a sketch or link to show the 7in back end??
Thanks for your help.

Put a thermostatic valve in if you fit a big oil cooler as you don't want to overcool it.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

You will need a HUGE amount of oil cooling I'm afraid.
I know of a couple of people that run air/oil gixxers in autograss cars and they run two massive coolers and after a 5 minute race the oil is still
dangerously hot.............and that's with no turbo. (still 225hp though)
Retro RWD is the way forward...........automotive fabrication, car restoration, sheetmetal work, engine conversion
retro car restoration and tuning

I keep meaning to do a few drawings of the IRS.
It's basically a Stuart Taylor setup, using their wishbones.
A better setup is Rorty's IRS. Someone will have a link to the plans.
