XR4i
I know someone that is selling 2 XR4s for pretty cheap. Would one of these make a good donor car, i already have a pinto, so only need the gearbox,
rear diff and uprights. Apparently the thrust bearing has gone? Where abouts is the thrust bearing, and how hard is it to replace?
Does the XR4 have LSD as well, and would this work well on a kit car? Is it the same size as the standard sierra diff? Are the uprights similar to the
standard sierra ones, im guessing that they have rear discs aswell.
Thanks
Chris

Chris,
Apart from the weight of the V6, can't see any reason why you couldn't go XR4 route (assuming were not of 4x4 - which is a different
matter).
Thrust bearing is connected to the clutch fork and is the last bit that connects you foot to the clutch. Fairly inexpensive to replace - if you were
using the car on the road and fixing it - major inconvenience - but as you're breaking car, very easy indeed.

Chris,
Forgot to mention - I trust you know that it's got IRS, so you'll need to make your own wishbones or go de Dion

I was thinking of using the IRS but not the V6, ive already got a pinto. Im not sure if the standard sierra rear diff is the same size as the XR4
though. Im planning on building a MK Indy, would i not be able to use their wishbones?
Thanks
Chris

The diff will be the same size but check the driveshafts, if they are 'lowbro' couplings, (if they are attached to the diff flanges with
allen screws) they will be a larger diameter than standard sierra couplings. Check that they will fit the uprights of the kit you choose.
