Jaguar V12 + transaxle
Naive newcomer seeks advice...
Any suggestions for type and source of a suitable transaxle to mate with a Jaguar V12 engine in mid-engined configuration?

No idea but sound like a fun recipe! I was contemplating a BMW 750 but sacked it off due to weight and appalling throttle response. I was almost out
of the car before the engine revved!

Steve,
What sort of power do they put out? Worth it for the weight at all with tuning?
Cheers,

i suspect not myself, the cheap engines are quite old so not too powerful, 300bhp max id guess even for the 5 litres. My personal choice would be the
turbo'd smaller units, 2 to 2.5 litre blown. These will get 250 horses all day, more if some money is spent, and will weigh a good deal less.
Having a huge lump up front must do something funny to the handling! Quality units like, i dunno, cossies or jap stuff might get plenty more, like up
to 1000 from even an SX engine, though with dubious reliability.
realistically 400 bhp is on the cards, out of a 2 litre.
My next engine, as said many times on other threads, will be a rover turbo, which should get 230 - 240 quite easily (they can be run at 10 psi all day
apparently).

My car, engine in the picture, was an HE model that put out 299 hp, with massive torque.
The earlier pre HE was around 285 hp.
HE = high efficiency head - special swirl combustion chambers. Helped economy - in a relative way!
There were lots of variants, inc cats fitted to cars after 1991.
The Jag engine is nice and smooth, but totally shagged by a 3 speed auto box. There are bellhousings and conversions arund, but I decided to sell the
car to fund my build 3 years ago.
Its interesting to compare 3 speed v12 auto ad the 3.6 straight six of the time.
0 - 30 = approx 2.7 both cars
0 - 60 approx 7.5 both cars.
Its only 0 - 100 were the v12 is about 3 secs quicker.
If I was buying again, id use the 'six' as although its 'only' 225 hp, the 5 speed box is much better!
Its a very similar engine to the one on the luego car on the front page of the site 'cept its the later aj16 4.o than the 3.6 aj6.
There is a company called AJ6 engineering that does tuning items for V12 and AJ6 cars.

There is a Jag breaker in the village where I live (Ackworth near Pontefract where the Yorkshire group meet) who supplies V12 engines complete with
all the electronics etc for a maximum of £500 - someone I knew was interested in one for a mid engined land rover which sounded interesting.
