Escorts are worth to much to break for a locost.

You may be better finding a Cortina. Atleast that way you get the front uprights. The whole of the running gear can be used.

I think you are getting confused with the vin plates etc.

If you are happy with a Q plate then you don't need any paperwork from the escort. If you get a donor and have the V5 then you will need to let the dvla know that you have scrapped the car after you have taken what you need.

If you have the V5 then you have a chance at getting an age related plate by using major components from the donor.

Whatever you decide you will need to put the locost through SVA.

Let us know what you want the car to end up like and we will help you take the right path.

I have no V5 for my car so it will have a Q plate which doesn't bother me at all but some people make sure they have an age related plate.

You will not get a new reg as apart from 1 item (usually the engine) everything has to be new with proof of purchase. I'm not sure if this means proving the chassis is new with bills for the metal used in construction.

If you are still confused ask questions or U2U me and i'll give you my phone number.
Cheers

Hey Andy,

Cheers for the post. I know I need an SVA no matter what (bugger. lol), I just personally do not want a Q plate, I would like to get a age related plate (Not that there is anything wrong with Q plates, I just want to be able to put a personal plate on at some point).

Yeah I also know the rules re the new reg and I am not willing to go for all new parts (bar the engine) as that would not be very locost would it? lol

You can see my chassis in the pic and i already have my engine (which I picked up today) a Fireblade 929 RRY Injection Lump. I also alreasy have my Escort Rack, Escort 3.54 English Axle, steering coloum. 2 sets of Cortina uprights and hubs (whoops) and a sod load of other spares inc the 1600 Xflow engine and gearbox which will be going to my mate

All I really need to achieve is a cheap way of getting a none Q plate

Hey Redeye,

I am based by the Kent/Surrey border and Scotland is a wee bit far for me. lol. Cheers for the info though.

He doesn't want a Q plate.
He doesn't have to tell the DVLA that he has scrapped the car, because he isn't scrapping it. He is using the major components to get an age related plate.
He only needs to keep the donor on a SORN until he is ready to get his SVA and then sort the paper work out to get his age related bplate.

I replied in his other thread in SVA and Legal

If he has a registration and the donor has not been used for anything else he can apply for a V5 using just the number on the plate, then SORN it till he is ready to declare it no longer exists as the parts have been used to make a different vehicle. It may cost him depending on the circumstances as there is now a charge for a replacement V5 but if it was not transferred by the previous owner he may be exempt.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
