Mk1 Escort donor q's

Hi guys.
Honestly im a datsun guy so nissan/datsun is what i know. Which is why im asking about escorts
Im using a mk1 escort for my donor.
Just want to know if the differential changed from the mk1 - mk2 escorts (and sports)? ie does one have larger (see stronger) internals?
Im new onto these forums and know how anoying it is when someone new comes in and asked either a repeated q or something generally known to everyone.
So sorry if its one of the above.
Help is appreciated.
Cheers
Chris

Generally the escort range of mk1 and mk2 had the same sort of axles fitted. In the Uk they were labelled as timken salisburby and if you are very very lucky a baby atlas.
The one to go for is the "english axle" it fits into the diff casing from the propshaft side and is held in by a ring of bolts. it is easily changed for a different ratio and it has a bigger variation of aftermarket competition parts available.
It is 48 inches wide and has 3.89, 4.1, 3.77, 4.44, 3.54 ratios available so you've gotta watch what you're buying if you need a specific ratio.
The baby atlas is much stronger and very rare.

Also availabe from the capri range is the much stronger Atlas axle at 52 inch wide with a 3.09 ratio (3ltr mk1) and some of the above ratios as well. A 2.8 injection one should have an lsd fitted as well. The diff fit's in from the rear of the axle and is much more complex to change/setup.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Thanks that helps a bit ae.
With the datsun b110 series, they all had the same differential housings and heads at the same ratio (3.9) except the ute which had slightly stronger head going from 146 to 165. also the housing was slightly bigger. It can handle the torque from a standard ca18det maybe a little more and def a ca18de so i guess im wanting to ask if the ford escort mk1 differential assembly will be able to take it from a de.
Im sure it should be able to but never hurts to ask.
I wonder if its a lot different with the escorts nz got..... mm
Cheers guys

The Brother in laws hotrod with an xe pushing 230 bhp(flywheel) has never broken an axle or even a halfshaft. It weighs in at just over 700kg.
