what order should i remove doner parts

Hi Guys
is it best to remove the engine first, and the remove the drive gear after?
Also do the scrap boys pay for cars with all the good bits removed?

Personally

I removed the trim first, then removed propshaft (XR4X4) then dropped front and rear subframes respectively with engine etc. still on subframes.

I call it the "big lump system" then you can dismantle to the "n"th dgree after the shell has gone. All we used was a trolley jack and axle stands, dropped the subframes then lift the shell and slide them out

I sold a lot of my trim parts to the guys on the sierra owners club forum

It's an idea to keep the shell "rollable" until it's ready for removal (ie. no point stripping it down down the back of a long drive and then being unable to get it to the vehicle that's going to remove it.

Also I did not take my shell top a breaker but to a scrap metal yard (the crusher) and got £46 for it

Hope this helps

I agree with all of the above.

You done a lot better on your shell than I did mine.
I got exactly sweet FA for it.

One thing I would add.
If you are intending to use any of the loom. Be methodical in the marking of all the wires you disconnect.
Making tape & cd marking pen are great for this.

In 12 -24 months time, you'll be mighty glad you marked all of the wires.

Ahh Yes

Very good point about labelling!!

I learnt to my cost on another project not to use pencil as several months later you can't read a damn thing!

Perhaps one of the important things is if you have access to an engine hoist I didn't at the time so the scappy who took the body offered to haul out the engine & gearbox when he picked the car out. That was OK until it spewed gbox oil over the drive. SWMBO was not so pleased even though she had lost the sierra
