donor cars available in sweden?

trying to find out what donor cars can be found here in sweden. or rather: what available cars can be used except the RWD ford escorts.

So, does anyone know anything about which Volvos, Opels (I believe they call them "vauxhall" in the UK), toyotas etc. can be used? what modifications will be needed for the chassis? which FWD donors can be used along with what gearbox?

why is it that FWD cars are so much more common? it really sucks! it would have been easier to plan this if the RWD escorts had still been around!

My theory is that most cars are fwd for cost reasons.

The whole engine and transmission is built as one peice, and bolts to the car as one. Less castings, less bracketry, less time.

The 'default' alternative donor is the sierra, although it doesnt have a live rear axle or front hubs. However, there are kits like the MK that allow the sierra to be used, and you can buy adapters for he front.

Opel is Vauxhall in the UK.

If you can find an old cortina (Taunus in europe) - the car before sierra - thats a very good option.

FWD cars a generally considered to be 'SAFER' and more predictable for 'Average' drivers... ie People with less driving skill (now that's unfair I didn't actually say women!) are less likely to spin a fwd car....

Actually my wife managd to spin a 1.6 sierra 360 degrees on a straight road at 40mph ... how? god only knows.... but point proved I think
