Scrapping my donor
I've taken off everything that I need off my Sierra, I read on here somewhere to remove all signs of identity off the car so that the scrap man
can't notify the DVLA that its been scrapped.
I've drilled off the vin plate under the bonnet and made the VIN number Illegible by the drivers seat, I've also removed the number plates
so no-one can tell the identity of the car.
Only thing is that the window's are etched, Do I need to worry about this or am I just being fussy.

Definitely get rid of the numbers. I'm sure someone on here said that scrap yards are legally required to tell the DVLA the identity if they
can find it. Not worth the risk if you want/need an age related plate.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

OK, I'll scratch / smash the windows tomorrow.
Are there any other VIN locations on the chassis / body any where that I've missed?

smash the windows pull out all the plastics and interior then weigh the shell in at a proper scrap metal yard rather than car breaker you will get
more money there! Take the plastic etc, to the local dump!

I haven't really got any way of taking the car to a scrap metal place so I'm letting a bloke take the car away for free, Its out of my
hair so I'm happy.

Do you have to take out all the glass and plastic to weight it in then? I intended to weigh mine in but they want the reg plates on the car. Could
this be a problem?
If its broke, fix it. If it aint broke, take it apart and find out how it works!

Yes if you want an age related plate. They will almost certainly report the car scrapped to the DVLA.
While it's not necessarily impossible to overcome you will be throwing yourself on the 'toss a coin school of decision making' that
seems to be the usual way to decide issues lacking a specific rule in govt agencies.
A scrap metal dealer will want most of the glass and plastic removed, a scrapyard will want the glass in to protect the interior in case they can sell
some of it.

But before you do....
are you sure you have taken everything you could possibly need off it?
I took everything I possibly could, a lot ended up in a big cardboard box, but you would be amazed at the odd bits that have been re-used!
Old door seals were re-used for dash radius padding. I kept the whole loom even though I had a 'proper' one - I have managed to get a lot
of odd connectors and bits of coloured wire from it. Even the remote boot release was re-used by a friend for their glovebox!
Basically if you have somewhere to store it - keep it!

Don't forget that the VIN will be stamped in several places, not just on the VIN plate.
It could be under the carpet, in the boot... anywhere!

Well, what happens happens as I went to 'fix' the windows yesterday and the car has already been taken.
Hopefully it won't be notified as scrap. If they do, will I get a letter from the DVLA?

If its only the windows then you should be ok. But if the car is scrapped then they should send a letter confirming it.
They did the last time I scrapped a car
