Escort Turbo Engine Into a Lotus 7

Possible ?

Stupid ?

Just had a thought if I could get an escort or fiests Rs turbo engine will this fit the type 9 gear box ?

Would It be daft putting that engine in a lotus 7/

Would it be to complex or just physically to Big?

Would I kill my self?

Scot's do it better in Kilts.

Mad engine

Yup, the engine will go in, but you will need a modded gearbox bellhousing I think, mad not at all, there are a few more exotic beasties in here as well, easier ways to get power but all things possible, down to cost of the gearbox clagged on the back of it I think A Mcsorley chassis might be a better option than the book too, but thats the easy bit

RST engine in se7en?

Isn't the escort RST just a 1.6 CVH with a turbo system on it? If it is, why wouldn't a type 9 'box fit straight on?

I have been loking into this engine option myself as a replacement down the road for my pinto. I have yet to find out however, if it will fit the standard Indy chassis.

While we're at the subject, any of you ford hardware wizzards out there have some drawings / detail pictures of this particular engine? As with all engines, i think the main issue will be the height, as i think the turbo tubing goes over the top of the cam cover.

It is just a CVH with a turbo bolted on the front so the normal type 9 will fit (not the v6 one). The cross over pipe for the turbo will add 3-4" on the height of the engine and the turbo probably 6" on the exhaust side of the lump.

Main difference between the Fiesta and Escort RSTs are that the Fez is electronic fuel injection whereas the Escort uses the old K-Jet mechanical system. There's loads of bits out there for both engines and they can easily make 200bhp with a few simple mods.

In other words - go for it!

Chris

i wouldn't worry about the size. if hicost can fit a yb cosworth turbo in a 7, the rs turbo lump is bound to fit.
