Escort Mk 1- You beauty!!
After getting RC's book as a present, and thinking building a cheap(ish) sports car was a cool idea! I went in search of a donor.
(I must say before I continue that I had not been interested in cars before getting this book, being quite content pottering round in my pink(faded
red!!) astra.)
I happen to buy a copy of classic ford one day, call it research, and I absolutely fell in love with the mk1 escort. This is the most fantastic
looking car I have ever seen!
Needless to say my attitude towards butchering one for a locost has changed and now I am going to be using mcsorleys +422 along with a sierra donor
for my project.
I can't be the only person this has happened to, is there anyone else out there!!

Liam,
Admitting that you think the Mk1 Escort is the "mot fantastic looking car ever", shows that you weren't interested in cars
before
The Sierra donor I broke was actually a very solid car, and with a new motor, would've been fine.
Didn't stop me stripping it to a bare shall in two days
Which was of course, the best thing that could have happened to it

Mk 1 escort
I didn't know that mk1 fancying was something that you had to "admit".
Its much better looking than a sierra, and a sierra isn't that bad!

2 or 4 door, they are a classic rally car drivers centre of attention. I preferred the mk1 to the mk2 shape and they are now too rare to be an obvious
choice for a donor car. Years ago I helped rebuild a 1600 sport which I believe is still on the road. A friends son is rebuilding a Mk2 Ghia 4 door at
the moment and it is looking very good.
yours, Pete.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I think thats a perfectly good attitude. Keep the Mk1 as is!!

what you tend to be forgetting, Sierra are like dog turds - one on every street corner, wheras Mk1's are rare and interesting.
All the best,

I didn't want to do it, but it looks like you're going to make me admit, in public, that I quite like the Mk1 Escort.
So long as it's the Mexico/RS1800/2000.
Thanks and bunch and have a good Christmas

I like that, I'm going to get one, right after I build the locost, or is that before I build the locost???????

Mk1s used to be interesting, they are now rare, if u find a mexico thats not wobbling as it goes round corners you have somthing special, most of them
especially good Mk1s/Mexico's are like tiger droppings on Oxford street, rare as hell

remeber - the reality of the mk1 is that most were gutless 1100 or 1300 models making 50 - 60 hp.
interesting coke bottle shape tho. if they were made of the same stuff mk3 cortinas were, they will be iron oxide now
