Now that I've successfully got my 1275cc Smart on the road, I'm thinking about a Yamaha R1 powered Smart for a bit of fun. My question is, what's the ultimate weight for a BEC? The Smart is 740kg standard, but thought it should be nearer to 600kg or less to work well with a bike engine conversion. what's the deal on clutch life as well?

Any feedback and advice appreciated.

Mine weighs 530kg and is a bit lardy. I'd say 400kg is ideal. Probably not what you want to hear.

You could compensate with the diff, offcourse.
Or turbo it...

A BEC smart has already been done (probably by the same people who do the BEC mini's) so it might be worth searching on the net how they got the weight down and what setup they used.

I guess cost wise a Smart Crossblade would be out of the question? They would make an awesome BEC conversion I reckon and weight must be a fair bit less than standard.

Martin Keenan might also be worth talking to as last time I was there he was doing the subframe for one. Not sure if it was a customers or his. That had a Hayabusa in it.
