HI all
its time to pick up my donner car 75miles away. Can i tow a car on the motorway using a towing pole and dose the car being towed need tax.

If the wheels of the towed car are toughing the road then it needs to be taxed and insured. Bars, ropes and A frames are only for recovery not transportation.

These days I'm afraid you really need a trailer or car transporter.

i may be wrong, but aren't a frames ok for towing?

Have a trawl on eBay or your local Thompson for car transport/recovery etc.You'd be suprised at how cheap some can be. With a trailer you've got your fuel costs,wear on the tow vehicle etc to factor in.I think you'll get that on to a 'truck for £60-80 ish.

Officially they are for recovery purposes only.

The problem is that the towed vehicle is effectively an unbraked trailer.
Any trailer over 750kg needs brakes.

And, unless you are a recovery company you have to exit the motorway ASAP. Normal people cannot tow on a motorway.
