Does anyone know of any books/websites that show you how to break up your donor (eg an escort)? I could only find one website on the net, and
it's pretty brief/no pictures:

Tools....
full set of both metric and standard.
Power drill
angle grinder
sawsall.
and your imagination...
I also hired the two 15 year old boys from across the street. free labor
Haynes manuals tell you how to dismantle and rebuild. Ask for a 50% discount as you only need the first bit.
scrap the shell and keep the rest
and you are halfway there
I would got for engine/gearbox first, then wiring (if needed), then brakes, steering and axles last.

My old next door neighbout disposed of a complete body shell, by going out every night and gutting a 30cm square or so off. Each week they went in the
dustbin bags (no wheely bins then!) in about 6 months it had all gone.
Just goes to show the "little and often" approach works well!.
The most important thing is to remember to label EVERYTHING as you take it off, you won't need some of it but you'll never remember what was
what when you come to it in a few months, and try to replace bolts and other fasteners where they came from.
Cheers

Now steels gone up the scrapyards round here are collecting again. They will pay if you take shells in as well so the China Crisis has done us a favour despite making stuff dearer.
If it's an Escort, disconnect wiring from engine, cut flexi brake hoses, remove top shock mounts and unbolt front crossmember. Get a mate to help
lift front of car and pull whole front end out - simple. Remove axle and propshaft, remove instruments etc then cut shell into 6 pieces and take to
local dumpit site!!
Take a look at www.lumby.freeserve.co.uk in the gallery section for some pics

i chopped up my r5 when i was done with it. you can use the roof for donor metal usually, and a 12 inch angle grinder makes light work of the rest. Just remember to empty the fuel tank!!
My Sierra came to pieces like so....
First
Second
Third
Fourth
take your time & strip everything off it except the doors, bonnet boot etc & then get rid of the shell, sold mine on ebay, (mk2 escort) for £2.29, it save giving £30 to the scrapper.
How to completely strip two sierra 4x4s in a few hours...
Fork-lift car onto side
Undo gearbox and prop bearing mounts, rear suspension mounts, anti roll bars, exhaust, handbrake and brake lines
Push it back over
Undo struts and steering column, and introduce wires and hoses to Mr. Snippy
Fork-lift front of car under engine and remove subframe bolts.
Drop back down
Insert forks in side windows and lift whole body off the running gear. Put straight on trailer and weigh in for 35 quid.
Repeat

Ditto the fork truck approach. Much easier. Made dropping the front cradle with engine and box complete a doddle.
Some people might find getting a fork lift truck onto their driveway a bit of a challenge though!!! Inside double garage, use engine hoist from
overhead beam to lift car up - might be an option.
