got my rear mould laid up over last weekend and popped it off today! i did in one piece to save time, no reason why not as there are no negatives on
it only at the rear.
the suction in the mould puled a big chunk off the plug! its on a section where id built up some filler using drylining filler which is water based,
must no have cured properly and the heat from the fiberglass must have made it steam up and go soft.
heres some piccies as usual-
here is the rear with the first coat of mould sealer applied (polyuerethatne moisture curing varnish) i then refilled to get rid of the smaller
imperfections brought to light after putting the sealer on. then another 2 coats of sealer which is then sanded smooth through the grits down to 1200
grit wet and dry.
mould sealer on rear
and here is the mould, all in one piece (my fingers were crossed!) it is very thin, probably the same thickness as the final panel will end up! but i
couldnt afford to buy anymore fiberglass at hte moment and i nigh on ran out of csm to get it this thick, but it will likely only ever see one pull so
doesnt really matter.
rear mould laid up
and here the mould supended after pulling it off. (after some work and a bit of worrying!)
rear mould popped off
a big chunk of my plug removed by the mould! the bit was stuck to the mould but scraped off easily enough. doesnt matter one little bit as long as the
mould is ok. this section of the plug is now in thoudands of pieces any way!
mould suction!
yeah this happen to me in the past a few times. These days I use candle wax and heat the mould up with a heat gun to melt it before pulling off the
mould. Seems to work fine doing that but I do much smaller things than a whole car rear end.
Good work though
That mould needs some serious reinforcement before using it, otherwise those edges will distort all over the place
Shame about the damage BUT that's a wicked shape
Steve
have you considered adding lovres or vents like an ultima to break up the large area and let heat out?
im sure itll be strong enough, the fron was about the same and had no problems with that.
definately needs vents, ill sort those out later, just makes things complicated trying to do them at this stage.
