How much camber?
dazzx10r - 31/1/10 at 05:22 PM

I'm going to set the camber on my MK Midi, how much should I go for? the car is going to be used on the roads and for trackdays, it has Gaz suspension all round with 300lb springs. I was going to start at 1deg front and 2deg rear, what do you think? Has anyone set the static sag of thier suspension? how much do you go for? I'm no stranger to setting up suspension, problem is all my experience is with race bikes!

id start with half a degree, but there is a way of calculating it with the size and width of the wheel, kerb weight and driver weight etc.

Are the 300lb springs what Martin supplies/recommends with the Midi?

That seems a lot when pinto engined 7s seem to run around 300lb up front and 180+ at the rear.

yeah, but to be fair he's still working on suspension setup, I was thinking of going down to 175's or 200's on the front. But bear in mind that the car does'nt have an anti roll bar, Martin was looking at trying one at alater date.

A work in progress then - be interested to see what you end up with

On lightweight racing Davrian Imp Saloon we ran 170 lb/in or 180 lb/in springs on the front --- that car was a lot lighter than than any road car and track only.

Spring rates depend on a lot of things. Corner weight, unsprung; leverage ratio of suspension setup, and desired ride harshness/softness are all needed.

Quoting numbers out of thin air is meaningless unless all of the parameters are known.

As a start, front camber may be 1/2 degree negative, with rears 0.25 degrees negative.

A lot of front negative camber will make the car steer to the camber of the road, and will be all over the place.
