The case for not having a bike engine
zilspeed - 17/4/12 at 08:51 PM

This here is what you want.

A Duratec in a decent mid engined chassis.

Yes, I know. Slicks, wings, race track.

But still, this here is what you want.

Properly properly quick.

Pretty pokey then

The point isn't that people want a "bike engine" nessisarily, its that they want a very light, very powerful, very intense driving experience and a sequential box - no CEC offers that as a package for anywhere near the value a bike engine can.

Yes it can be matched, and beaten by CEC's, but they are in another league cost wise, and so out of the reach of most locostbuilders.

Yes, I totally agree.

And with a bike engine, that's what they get.

Then after a short time, they realise that the driving experience they actually wanted was a teeny weeny bit less immersive than screaming banzai maximum attack, for sure, full on, mentalist on speed, psycho nutte,r crystal meth vinegar in the eyeballs, kick to the nads, bonkers trip.

Maybe.

Personally my bec pulls away in third can be driven in 6th at 30mph is quiteish and goes like hell when I want and I change gear on full throttle by pushing a button on the steering wheel, the car weighs 545 kg fully laden with petrol tools hood etc. Long live 1340cc Hayabusa engines.

big-vee-twin - 17/4/12 at 09:31 PM

Oh, I like the hills, not too sure with Forces though.

I know bikes engines are everywhere in the hills these days, but I do like a big engined sportscar or single seater.

is that the one they use in the new v8 atom

kb58 - 21/4/12 at 11:36 PM

For me the decision was simple:
Street use? Bike engine is unfriendly and fussy, plus no reverse.
Track only? Bike engine is perfection.
