Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on shock length and spring rates for the J15. I notice in the manual the stand shocks from Sylva are 12inch
front and 13inch rear, and the 200lbs / 300lbs springs respectively. For those of you who have finished your build and have had chance to drive the
car, how do you find the ride?. is it compliant, does the car roll?. My old westfield had 220lb and 300 springs and was heavier...
I'm possiby thinking of upping the spring rates as the car will mostly be used on track. As yet I'm undecided as to if an ARB will be
needed.
I have recently finished and been enjoying my J16 Riot on which the spring rates are the same as yours.
Trust Jeremy!
The car handles beautifully - no roll.
Just set the car up exactly as he suggests.
Cool....will probably be ordering my shocks from protec soon
Can some one confirm......shock open lengths...are they 12inch fronts with 200lbs springs
13inch rears with 300lbs springs
Also, any idea on the size of I'd of the spherical bearing?
You're best to ring Jeremy and get the exact information you need.
Hi Jenko, enjoying reading about your progress on the blog :-)
I'm on 275lb/in springs on the rear of my mojo (which is basically the same geometry as your J15, and I imagine yours will be a bit lighter with
Zetec-SE vs my iron block Zetec-E).
My kit was supplied with 400lb/in springs which I found far too firm for road use. Initially I dropped to 325, then 275, so your start point of 300
sounds sensible. I wouldn't go firmer...
Front rates are not comparable as my car has outboard springs so the lever ratios are completely different to your inboard setup.
You can read about my musings on spring rates in more detail HERE
Cheers!
Neil
Cheers Neil....I have been reading your website, and very good it is too :-)
I think I have decided on the 300lbs and 200lbs as a base setting, and having had very good experience with Protec in the past (Kevin is a very good
person to deal with), I've opted to go with Protec also.
I need to do a blog update :-)
Excellent, glad you are using the website, wasn't sure if it was on your radar or not..!
Agreed - Protec are great!
