I need some help, gents (and ladies...!)
I'm going to sell the prototype LMP car as a rolling chassis and need to set a fair price for it, so I'm looking for advice...
Basically it needs an engine, transmission (if not BEC), some plumbing and some wiring for it to be a runner again.
I'll go as high as £250 if you'll deliver it. That's the going rate isn't it? The first one's got to be the dearest though hasn't it? All the others will just be copies.
I'll take that as an insult.
do radical's ever go as rolling chassis to give an idea?
i have seen various single seaters go for not a lot, but presumably yours includes all teh bodywork which makes it expensive!
Whats it worth fully built? Guess a radical or sports2000 can be had from £8-10k, old spersports car are going for around £12-15k complete.deduct cost
of engine installation ( + transmission) take a wild stab at it!
I'd hazard a complete guess at £3-5k, depends on what else is on it i suppose, how much fuel system is intact, what brakes is it running (ally 4
pots?) dash/gauges etc, also think about what the cost would be of say buying a similar kit and speccing it up to where your car is at, then chop a
bit off for 2nd hand/depreciation etc.

anyhow, i looked at the pics, the car looks great, if i had room i would make an offer on it & stick a bike engine in it, did you ever do any bike
engined runs on UK circuits with the car and record any times ?
the bottom line is its worth whatever some one will pay for it like everything else.
Yeah, but I didn't pull bits off an old Mk2 Escort, or panelling off a scrap van to build it, Jon.
There's a lot of bespoke parts, which cost a fortune to tool (e.g. cast ally uprights, magnesium steering rack, etc.).
You basically get a complete car, minus engine and diff (driveshafts are included).
For approx. the price of a ZX12 engine (or Busa), a prop, and a differential, it would be ready for track days/racing. It's not a million miles
away from being road legal, either.
Because it was the development prototype, it was never built to a particular spec', however it closely matches the LMP-SE spec' which
retails around £26k inc. VAT.
I know that new, clubman rolling chassis from more established suppliers are in the region of £22-28k.
ok, the point i was trying too get across was the £250 Pete mentioned was a tounge in cheek reference to the book not a reflection on what the cars true value was.....
having just done a quik search, radical clubsports are going for £8-12k for champion winning proven car from a large established firm.
I did find an sr4 as a roller for £17k, but do you think you can compare it to such a well known marque? regardless of whether it is a better car or
not, people will always be suspicious of a car without an engine, i suspect it would be easier to sell complete, begs the question why is it not for
sale with the engine? or why not chuck a standard engine in to sell it if yours is tweaked?
someone imho who is the type who would buy it and fit an engine or have one fitted is gonna think by the time they've budgeted several k for an
engine they might as well go and buy a radical for hte same money that will have a known resale value.
I don't mean to cause offence as I do like the lmp, but think until it is strongly established, especially in competition where its main market
should be imho (people who buy trackday toys are less likely to want to mess about putting an engine in something imho) then its resale on the used
market will be limited as no one really knows what it is or what it's worth.

FWIW we rarely timed it on any circuits because we always ran it at track days. However, it was just under 60s at Knockhill on road tyres in the early
stages of development. But it might be quicker with a better driver than me in it...!
i would finish it and put it on your site as a turnkey, gradually reducing price or inviting offers.
failing that, ebay it, with a long auction and suitable promotion in advance on your website. as they always say, its worth whatever someone will
pay.

Yes, there's a kit. It's all detailed on our web-site, but a comprehensive kit comes in at just under £11k inc. VAT.
A kit can be specified to any level of content, though, which can represent a large saving over the headline price.
How about looking at it from a different perspective:
1. how much would it cost on top of the kit price to get this car up a running ready to race ?
2. How much are people willing to pay for a race car to compete at this level ? (you dont want to end up vastly more expensive than it's rivals
but they should be a good guideline)
3, deduct 1 from 2 and you have your kit price ?
Personally, I would apply your standard gross margin percentage to your roller cost--including your man hour cost to build it to the roller stage. The
supply/demand law will dictate if you cost is too low or too high, and you can adjust from there.
