Its going to take time me thinks.
I have a friend who is doing a mid engined hyabusa engined mini... complete with turbo and carbon fibre roof chop.
he even cut 3inches off the floor
That sounds a bit agressive, should be quick.
Very cool.
Im pretty new to here and intend on building an MK indy or similar. Im big into my minis. Here is my pride and joy

What engine are you fitting to your mini?
Fitting a carbed R1
Good choice, same as mine!!!
How far have you got doing your build, is it your own or a kit.
It is a zcars kit. I built it myself, 1st customer to do so. You can see a clip of it doing the 0-60 on zcars website on the 'mini' page.
It is the red and white cooper.
That was the first time the car was run on the track and was only running about 3/4 throttle.
How far have you got with yours? Are you doing your own design or a kit?
My own design but based on one i saw at MK Engineering, you any pictures of the back end/engine.

Hope your not the tit doing the talking. Sorry to offend you if you are.
No thats not me!!! Its the bloke that makes the dvd's... Know what you mean though.
Whats it like for handling mate, used to have a 1340 Mini, But with not alot up front is it a bit wishy washy as to say.
It was a bit light on the steering to start with but after getting it set up it feels spot on. The handling is pretty good too, i was expecting it to be a lot worse after reading a lot about other peoples mini's but was pleasantly surprised. Not 100% yet but not far off now.
was it worth the money though
In my opinion, i think the finished car is worth the money, but the kit is pricey when you consider what you get as a bunch of parts!
When I started the project I knew nothing about bike engined cars and the choice was between a type R engine for my elise (10k) or a zcars kit (5k).
I haven't got any regrets on my decision but as i said, now i know what i do i could do another one a lot cheaper.....
The rad is here.

Any new progress on the mini??
Breif update after today. Finnished welding fuel tank up, made a Z-cars style tubular inside bumper thingy(Anti intrusion / crash bar which has
brackets for fixing the radiator. )From Z-cars site.
Fixed my polo gti radiator to that. stuck(literally) front wing assembly on with Duck tape, put bonnet on. Did a bit more wireing it now turns over
but no water in as yet.
Next job to sort is under car plumbing as per Z-cars then hopefully fire it up.
[Edited on 8/1/06 by welderman]
Got a 150mm gap between tank and radiator now.
Sorry about the other posts, forgot how to put pictures on. Can you tell.
Hope this make up for it.

Well it now runs, sorted all those little things, stainless under car pipes for radiator, silicone hoses all conected. Fuel pump still needs direct
feed but what the hell. Bang first turn and it started. Now to sort out front bodywork, then strip it down.
Need to chose a colour now. Er Stealth Black?. Maybe.
It's strange how they fire up instantly when you first try them but after fitting to the car and leaving over the winter they are a bastard to get started!!
I like the sound of the motor, so will probably start her up quite often. Should have changed the oil etc, but you know how it is. Men and their toys. We never grow up.
I wouldnt start it up that often unless you are gonna drive it, they like to blow plugs if you just run them in the garage..
Once it's on a rollins shell, may put down some dark rings outside the workshop if you know what i mean. Or even inside if i get cocky..
Could try white with balck sports. Snoopy.
Quite like this colour of blue.

I'm quite tempted to sell my R1 Striker and build an R1 Mini. It'd go beautifully with my Yamaha bike collection and 'er indoor's

Have you anymore buid pics of your mini???
Cheers
Hi there the first pic ic how it started then a few of the shell with bits added, i have some more on my works pc will have to get them and post them.
I think i will go on saturday and camp for the night if the mini gets me there, im going to tax and insure today and get a few miles done before i
attempt Stratford!!! I am hopefully going to the midlands meet at the Barley Mow on wednesday night to see if anyone else is leaving from Stafford on
saturday.
Chris
I am going on Friday night and staying all weekend, try to get about 10 runs in.
Hopefully see you there!
What kinda gas mileage can be achieved with the hayabusa or r1 mini?
Probably around 40mpg if you are just driving around on the road without giving it too much.
I used to get about 15mpg in a busa 7 style car and less if thrashing it.
Nice looking motor you have there Chris.
Joe any updates on the mini????
Titters any more pics??
Was the MOT ok?
What do you reckon on the driving expierience???
Here is mine
Cheers

hi there mark
the mini looks really good, mine has passed ok but he did say there was play in the steering rack (which was brand new) but apart from that it was all
fine, just started to use on the road now and was going to go to the showdown in it but the sprocket cover cracked and i could not get a clutch so not
able to drive. Now welded up and seems fine again. All i can say is that it loud in there when it reaches 1100 rpm, im going to have it all lined up
on a 4 wheel joby tomorrow so should handle better after that. Also need so paint work doing again as its lifting in places!!!!

Hi there Mark
my mini all went through MOT fine and is now on the road, the insurance i got was with Adrian Flux and cost me £650 fully comp which is not as bad as
i thought. Driving the thing is a bit weird and very loud i have not had my camber or toe settings do yet so car is all over the place im just waiting
to get it set up this week. As for performance well is like s**t off a shovel, still got loads to do yet but a least i can use it for the summer
months and then finish off in the winter, would really like to do a track day in it soon. Also appoligies to welderman for jumping in on his thread,
have you any more updates yet on the mini build??
Chris no worries on the hijack mate, good to see your on the road, mine not moved for a long time, work and ho0me improvements and all. Keep us posted.
Question? are the mini rear hubs "fused" or welded to the z-cars kit suspension. I'm trying to understand how the mini hub is fitted
to the z-cars kit.

Appreciate that Mark,
That photo of the conversion kit is "bad as hell" as we say in the US. Damn, I want one without the $$cost$$. Probably would cost 9K for
the kit and shipping to the US.
final question? where does the ring gear for the reverse come from - a car? I'm familar with the starter motor /w solinoid
Yep it is from a car but it isnt mounted on a heavy cast flywheel as such, just a thin steel disc to keep the weight down.
£9k would only get you that particular engine with the turbo kit, with out the mounting frame and drivetrain.
Heres the front view with the wopppppping big turbo, good for over 400BHP!!!!
2Litre civic type -R anyone??
Cheers
Decided to put the Indy up for sale, all my spare time seem's to be driving it all the time, so it's time to go and then i can finnish the
Mini off.
Will be missed though.
