windscreen damage
kb58 - 3/10/05 at 03:33 AM

The new windscreen was bumped by me and this resulted. Is this damaged badly enough that I should not install it? It is on the front surface, at bottom center. It is a big chip out of the outermost surface only and does not reach the plastic middle layer. The inside glass layer is undamaged. It isn't pretty, but it seems a shame to toss it. The question is, will this damage spread? What do you guys think?

What is the screen to be used for. That damage is an interesting one... It's not like a normal 'crack' which will travel further and further unless stabilised. I'm not sure but I'd say you'd may be able to use the screen without it getting worse. How much of the damage will be covered by the windscreen rubber 5-8mm?? The chip doesn't look all that much bigger than your thumbnail.

Cheers

I would take a template off it and go get some quotes from the glass suppliers.
You may have to ask a few places as they are not that keen to do glass that shape ........cause it involves a bit of work.

The older glass cutters use the meths to cut the plastic but the new way is a heat gun and that sucks.
Most of it would be hidden but the choice is yours
hope that helps.
