robinbastd - 14/11/05 at 10:44 PM

I'm a fan of the exoskeleton look, but someone out there could do a lot better than that.
Sorry gents but i think the website is better than the car,but that's not saying a lot.
Bah Humbug.

And there i was being the diplomat

Rorty - 15/11/05 at 01:45 AM

The first frame or two of the site gave me the shits, so I bailed.
What's it based on? I can see three-stud wheels!

look like 3 cylinder engine to... maybe it is a leightweight smart? .. losing weight on a smart.. who thought it was possible! lol

seem good to me, too ba it will never be plated in canada....

It wants more bars over the top from front to the top of the rollbar, it would look like the thing RH used to build from old Metros, KAIG project I think it was.

Yes it was the Kaig (though that was much uglier with that stupid front - http://www.kaigmotors.co.uk/ 'Don't be vague buy a Kaig' site hasn't been updated since 2002 so I presume in reality it's dead). I even read somewhere that someone eventually got one through SVA Probably the only one not registered as a Metro

Quite like the Qart though it looks like it could do with some cross bracing on the roll hoop, I hope the yellow light is because it's used as a pace car and not a requirement for German TUV

Older Renaults came with three studded wheels, for whatever that's worth.

79 civic - 16/11/05 at 09:23 PM

i think some citroens did too..

Rorty - 17/11/05 at 04:39 AM

I though it might be Froggy. I seem to remember older Renaults with three stud wheels and a funny looking nipple in the centre - bussy fixation you know.

For sure it's based on Smart parts

Which is not such a bad thing after all.
The parts are fairly light.
which is a good thing....

I heard the engines break a lot though... apparently many poeple experience serious problems with the turbo....

Jo C - 18/11/05 at 10:35 AM

Yes, there are some problems with the turbo on the early cars (Think it was cracked turbo casing).
But some problems are probably due to tuned engines and service not according to plan. But the base fact is that is a small engine and the it is tuned quite a bit.

Another minus factor is also the electronically controlled gearbox is a little slow in action.

But when the engine is less than 60 kg and is midmounted from the start, with a de dion rear suspension.
I think it should be straight forward to build a midengine Locost based on smart parts.
That has been my plan since 2.5 years.
I have been thinking and made a pre study of a concept.
The biggest problem so far is to find a donor car in Sweden, the part that I can buy at the breaker yard is just to expensive.

Another big problem is: just to do it.
