Meerkat "Bulge" - Alan's Newest update:
MattWatson - 23/4/03 at 01:59 AM

I personally Alan, would like to see the buldge on the front gone.

This I guess is down to personal preference, but I personally think that it makes it too... almost bloated. I would take it and rake the front down, so It almost goes in a straight plane from the top of the wheel arches, to the top of the front airdam.

You could always mount the rad in such a way that you don't have to worry about it?

Anyway, Excellent job! I think I need to see it in paint insted of just filler to fully judge it's shape.

Nope, I have to disagree. I like it....except for the slight discrepency between the radius of the nose where it meets the wheel arch, and the radius of the wheel arch itself. They're too similar to be so different/if they were further away from each other, the difference wouldn't be so noticable/it looks like they were made by different people in different departments/....sorry Allan...I really do like the overall effect.

Rorty, do you mean the main arch and the bonnet/inner arch not concentric?

Or am I misunderstanding..? What you say sounds subtle and fixable...just not sure what you mean...

Guys thanks for the positive feedback..

Matt....the nose has been "de-bulged"

Rorty.....but not too much......

..hopefully to suit both the pro and anti lobbies......

My opinion is that too much nose is not nice, as Matt says bloated, but too little and it loses character and presence...still we will know soon I guess.....

Again, thanks

It's hard to make comments though, as the bondo does not work well to see curves and such.

To me at least, it looks as though the front is almost nearly verticle. If you could take some time to spray it with a gloss paint...? And waste a day doing that!

Not sure about the central headlight- you'd need a very long extension lead.
It looks refreshingly different from the current trend for LMP inspired designs. Shall I sit back and await the arrival of the Meerkat in the UK?
Well done,
Ian

Thanks Ian,

Yes it will hit the UK sometime, late this year/early next would be my guess.....

I've just modded the nose a liitle and updated the website as of about 11.15pm UK time.......

So you think the central headlight won't catch on then?........

Yes...I think?

Alan,

In a previous message I suggested some venting in the sides of the 'bulge'. Here's a photo of the current Australian Mitsubishi Magna, which has an almost identical 'eagles beak' detail to the bonnet/hood, but with mesh grilles relieving the bulk to either side.

Don't know if this is completely at odds with your intentions but I offer it up for what it's worth.

Hi Dominic,

Yes that is certainly one of my possible intentions......I will mould the part and mark out with black paper a few possibilities for grilles/vents....

The hot air must go somewhere, so I may as well use the vents to improve aesthetics too if possible.....
