Been cracking on with my chassis

Hi all,

Its been a busy couple of weeks but the basic frame of my MIDI is now nearly there, its a mixture of 1 1/2" and 1" tube, although it needs a few more diagonals its nearly there now.

By the accurate pick it up its much lighter than my BEC chassis ! I was expecting to gain weight.

First pic is what I,m trying to achieve Rescued attachment chassis_update.JPG

Mark,

You've got far too much time on your hands

When Deimos is up and running (again), I may have to pop over and have a look - though I suspect at the speed I'm working, you'll be on build number three, or we'll be in the middle of the next ice age

Simon,

Yours looked completed apart from the ECU purchase last month... did that go ahead as planned ?

Mark,

Not quite

Mechanically I'm nearly done - just gotta connect o/s turbo drain to sump (but need to make a bracket), buy a swirl pot (as per post about 2 weeks ago), relocate battery (to n/side footwell) and sort air filters (gonna use panel jobbies - cheap, cheerful and easy to find - quick look through Halfords catalogue should help).

If all goes according to plan, I'll be ringing Emerald on Mon/Tues to discuss and very probably order (wifey told me to order it earlier this evening)

Then it's just remake the bonnet. I seem to be having spurts of lack of enthusiam, then decide to have a session to find it peeing down and leaky garage roof!

If I can get my act together and order ECU, then maybe next weekend (depending on Emeral delivery time) I can try and start it

Thats a very good amount of progress for such a short time.
Are you using something as a basis for the dimensions, did you get to run a tape measure over the Brabham(?)

Hi Doug,

I just pored over a number of photo's here

linky thing

I also visited the Brooklands museum and had a poke about.

Decided that it all looked pretty straight forward so measured my engine gearbox combo, my Locost foot well and started work in Excel.

The plan is not to clone but make something that looks of that era.

My new dilemma is wheels and tyres, I can get nice wide rims and tyres but have always hankered for an early 60,s BRM look.... My bodywork when made will suit both, my pocket will not however.

I have placed my chassis designs in my archive.

Simon

with the weather we have been having I'm not surprised! I have now officially ridden my bike 4 times this years so that works out at around £75 a journey in tax and insurance... pah
