If any of my fellow Haggis Hunters are interested there is a feature on the Coram Lmp in todays edition of the Daily Record
motoring section pity the contact details are now out of date though.
Cheers
Shug.

dunno where any pictures went though...
That's most excellent! It's nice when your accomplishments are noted by others especially in print.
I absolutely love the look of the Coram and admire the attention to detail you guys have put into it.
It is sweet.

Steve, the current version with the ZX12 is a blast to drive, a couple of minor mods on the bodywork pending and thats about it for the moment, the
next development will be a V6, but if anyone wants one with the ZX9 or ZX12 can do
Shug.
Is this your Baby then Shug or are you just building one
I work on a subbie basis for the guy that designed it, I do the fabrication for him I generally introduce myself as the Company Blacksmith, but I do
the steelwork and some of the GRP, he occasionally lets me drive them (good perk) when we have fully developed it I will be building one.
Shug
Quite a nice article, going on about track days in general then presenting the Coram as the ULTIMATE trackday car. Very flattering, and deservedly so
as the car is quite unique at this point.
Wish you and the gang at Coram lots of luck, so maybe you won't have to eat haggis anymore
Just kidding--haggis is fantastic, and who could've guessed from the ingredients?
Pete
Any new pics available Shug? There aren't any on the Record site, dunno if there were when it was written...
I will rattle Steves cage and get him to post somthing soon
Shug.
Shug,
Thanks for waking me...!
A load of new pic's in the photo archive under 'tadltd'
...going back to sleep now...
zzzzz....
Steve.
Oh god it moves (now and then) for his next trick hes drawing my new bodyshape
Shug.
That is such an incredibly good looking automobile! Clean, lean and mean.
Is there any chance of seeing her in her undies? You know - just the frame with mechanicals in-situ? I would love to see how the engine connects to
the rear differential!
Graber
I just Knew someone was going to ask that, I will ask him in the morning.
cheers for now.
Shug
Shug,
I can do most things, but NOT your cosmetic surgery...
If you want a new body shape, better get down the gym for a couple of years!
Steve.
Hhhhhhaaaaaa FOCRAOF he says with a belly to match a SUMO big boy
Going on a diet bitch
Have posted pic's of the LMP in its 'undies' - under 'tadltd' in photo archive, and approporiately titled!
Believe me, it's a much prettier sight than Shug in his undies...
...er... so I've been told.... *ahem*
Steve.
I guess you used a cable to operate that gear lever. Would it be possible to use one on a standard alfa gearbox (1.7 16v boxer)? Plus if you
haven't got place for the tank be hind the seats where do you put it, in the front of the dash or ontop of the engine (my engine is very flat an
low)?
Regards
Alain
You'll need a mechanical selector mechanism for that 'box. Cable's tend to work well with bike engined application because they only
move back and forth, a 5-speed 'h' pattern will need something a little more complex. I know that the new generation of small hatchbacks
utilise cable shift, though...
The fuel tank on the LMP sits between the sloping bulkhead behind the seats and the vertical engine bay bulkhead.
Steve.
Great looking car Steve! Always liked it's simple but very attractive lines.
Could someone tell me what is the exact weight of ZX12? with and without dry sump?
Ted
Outstanding! Too bad you don't make an LHD version and sell it in the USA, because I might just have to put a 2nd mortgage on the house for one!
Thanks for the piccies!
Graber
Wow! looking at cockpit pictures now - like it! Thats one neat shifter there! How does it works (sorry for dumb question). Great looking instruments
- what are they? where to get and how much?
Also may I give a little suggestion? I think it will be nice to sepatate passanger legs from introuding in drivers feet area - there's nothing
fun about if it happens at speed - especialy fun with LHD when passenger is stomping on loud pedal while you're trying to find those brakes
.
Ted
Ted, dont worry this is not the final product, who wants to carry passengers anyway, give Steve a phone or u2u if u want prices for the gauges we
stock them.
Shug.
Steve, Hugh - I'm very curious. What chassis torisional stiffness you'v got there? Any data on aero - CFD or something? Not trying to get
your sectrets just wanted to know - knowing that Bentley speed 8 has 5500lb of downforce at 200mph doesnt help one know HOW and WHY
Also it looks like you don't have much ackerman in there (upright pictures) also what hub are you using (thinking what to use myself)?
Ted
[Edited on 10/12/03 by Tudor (Ted) Miron]
Steve, u shouldnt have said that, we do a left hand drive version, designed that way from scratch to service the US/Canadian market, U2U tadltd if u
want details sent direct, we are already looking to export to the USA very soon, initally as a track car to show off the bike installation but there
is US engine we are working detail on as we speak, which should if all goes to plan allow road use too. Just the packaging to finish. + build
regulations to worry about, thats the holdup.
Shug.
Ted the uprights are designed for the car but use standard BMW bearings for ease of supply in Europe and US. We wont release details of the tech spec
of the car other than what u can see for commercial resons, other than that there are still a couple of minor bodywork/chassis issues to change anyway
so the figures Steve has would be of no use to u Suffice to say its getting better Steve could supply the uprights in Ali or Magnesium if u want
them though, I believe they can be machined to use a Ford Hub/bearing set in lieu of the BMW version if u want a cheaper or alternative build,
Calipers to suit depend on how big yr wallet is
Shug.
Hugh,
I think you missunderstood me I'm not going to copy your design in anyway I feel smart enough (also have very good consultants)
I'm targeting for no less than 20000lb/deg but unfortunately it's going to be more expencive using exotic (some years ago ) materials.
Also suspension geometry and overall packaging is going to be vary different - so no copys here. Uprights - I have my oun design - billet 7075T6 Alu
with magnesium as an option.
Is allways interesting when people saying that we would not give this information because of commercial reasons. As I pointed to know that someone
has effectively zero RC movement or 100000lb/deg chassis stiffness doesn't help you figure HOW. When people are hiding such information it could
lead potential clients to think that there's not much to say or worse they don't know it themself
I'm not offending here - take it with humor
Ted

The chassis was checked using FEA and gave a figure of 25,000 Nm per degree.
Pretty stiff.

Very nice car, saw it at Autosport last year but didnt really take much notice of it. Dont know why though, because now i want one! It will have to
wait till after the Indy though!
Looks brilliant in the pics, gorgeous lines, doesnt quite look real! What were the BBC filming for?
Any website or pricelists, i like to start planning/dreaming early!
Thanks
Dominic, if you're interested, I've used the Corolla cable shifter many times, as it's the most user friendly one I've come
accross.
There are pics of one mounted in one of my Beetle chassis on my site.
Rorty,
I've looked at those mid-engined Beetle photos on your web site a number of times and never noticed the similarity of the shifter to the two
AE101 ones I have in the "parts pile" Mine are from JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) 20-valve Corolla's and seem to be a lot better
made than the Australian delivered Corollas. Lots more metal, lots less plastic basically.
As I said, I already have two shifters and two pairs of cables. Sometime over the XMas break I'll be mocking up my shifter position and seeing
how long the cables actually need to be. Then I'll decide whether I'll just hook two cables end to end (with a sort of Pitman arm
arrangement to keep it all aligned in push-pull) or get new cables made. They look to me like standard Morse-Teleflex type cables as used in boats
etc so getting custom lengths shouldn't be a big issue. May have to reuse the existing ends if they're not standard ones and probably
won't be cheap - time will tell.
What did you do for cables?
Dominic
Hi Steve,
Good stiffness. 25000Nm/deg is about 5500lb/deg. Have you consedered to measure it phisicaly? What is the weight of chassis? If it's not a
secret.
Ted
We haven't done a physical measurement on the chassis, but the FEA calcualtions were done using Ford Motor Co's supercomputer, so I'm
confident they're pretty accurate.
Last time we weighed a chassis it came in at 58kg's or so (all CDS tube + tig welding).
I'm sure our monocoque version will be a lot lighter, though.
Steve.
Guys,
25000Nm = 18432ftlbs
This is very high for a steel spaceframe. Is the chassis reinforced with composites or honeycombe or something?
My own FEA on the lowcost produced a set of mods to take the chassis stiffness from the book 1200 to 1400 depending on the build to over 2700.
The Caterhamseven isn't much higher and the Ultima is around 3300.
Even my own work in progress designs don't go much over 5000. Neither do Those massive chassis under Cobras.
The Elise manages just over 7000.
Are you sure about that 25000Nm figure? If you are then we'd like to know how you got it.
Curious!
Regards
Chris
Can't say enything about Steve's (Coram) numbers. In my case I'm designing an errr..... lets call it semymonocoque chassis. Tubular
space frame carbon fiber skinned (riveted and bonded) on both sides with 1" thick nomex honeycomb between. This way it's possible to have a
VERY stiff yet lightweight chassis.
I don't see why you need a supercomputer for FEA (if you not in a big rush ) All analyses here are made on 2.8 P4 with 1032Mb Ram. I have to
admit that CFD analisys of Dennis's car took about a week of machine time.
Ted
Hey can you help me figure out how got those figures of 25000Nm = 18000ftlbs - I'm kinda lost in those imperial units
When I was designing the LMP, I was working for Ford. I 'borrowed' their resources because at the time I didn't have a personal PC (let
alone the software) that was capable of doing the FEA.
I'm dead sure about the figure, but I'm not saying any more...
Steve.
Steve may I ask you about those gouges (dash in your photo archive) I could ask you by PM but I'm sure that a other guys could be interested as
well. Hugh said you stock them.
Thank you
Ted

Hi Steve,
Good stiffness.
The gauges are digital display, available in red, green, and amber.
The speedo is fully calibratable and can also record 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, and top speed. It also has an odometer.
The tacho can be supplied to work with bike engines (10,000 rpm+), and will also record highest RPM.
All ancillary gauges record highest and lowest values (except fuel gauge). A full range of these are available, including: oil pressure, oil temp,
coolant temp, fuel level, air/fuel ratio, boost pressure, etc.
I'll post some pic's under 'tadltd'...
Please U2U me for prices.
Steve.
Forgot to say that when the gauges are switched off they go completely black.
They will also dim when the headlamps are switched on, and are extremely easy to wire up.
Steve.

thank you Steve - this sounds interesting.

That is all...!
Steve.
Steve, thanks for the update..
