stevec - 1/6/09 at 09:01 AM

seems to be a 1983 2.0ltr Sierra

Daddylonglegs - 1/6/09 at 09:27 AM

Did I misread the reg? TWP 369Y?

It came up as a Dutton sports?

theconrodkid - 1/6/09 at 09:58 AM

looks like 363y to me but then my eyes aint what they used to be

scotlad - 1/6/09 at 10:21 AM

Yup its 369Y A Dutton still aint an MK- I've asked him about it too :-) wonbder if he'll reply!

Humbug - 1/6/09 at 10:23 AM

I think it's 363Y... I'll be interested to see what his replies are (let us know). Sounds also like a report to eBay of an illegal item for sale (passing off a Dutton as an MK) = ringing?

motorcycle_mayhem - 1/6/09 at 10:30 AM

Yep, Dutton Sports is quite errr... 'legal', or it was in the early days. I built a Dutton Melos, registered as a Dutton Sports.... simply built it using my old 1300cc Ford, went down the road, got an MoT and told the DVLC that it had changed it's body type to 'Dutton Sports'. It then sprouted a V8, followed by several other lumps, then went IRS before some early bike engine experimentation and it's destruction at Lydden. All delightfully untroubled by legislation, memories.

Comparing that to now, where now 3 years after the harrowing SVA, I now need to spend a several hours bolting on exhausts/catalysts/etc., for emmissions, etc., at MoT time. Engine changes may involve taxation class changes, etc..... not that it matters, the Cameras are all out there to get me. Paranoia, you bet.

Anyway, sorry, yes. This car may well have got a V5 from an obscure route, but heck, when I was teenager, this was OK (so was taking drugs)...

Humbug - 1/6/09 at 10:46 AM

errr... yes, but using the reg from a Dutton and putting it on a car built using a different chassis doesn't quite meet current IVA/DVLA rules

James - 1/6/09 at 11:05 AM

I'm loving all this righteous indignation from the people on here!!!

Who the f'#k cares what they're selling on ebay.

It's hardly as if we're paragons of virtue on this site! With our SVA bodges that 'fall off' 2 miles down the road, emissions re-mapping after tests, having 2 cars with same details etc. etc.

Let him get on with it and buyer beware IMO.

Cheers,
James

Space framed kit car with GRP body, al the same aren't they

You should read some of the rants on other forums regarding tax exempt Land Rovers that have
been stretched a few inches !

Ditto.

AFAIR, vehicles registered (ahem!!) "...incorrectly...", are liable to be confiscated by the constabulary, and possibly crushed.
Has this actually happened yet??

Aaah......the old favourite, Land Rover. Sorry to repeat myself, (have listed this previously), I frequently encounter a 1963 reg LR, which clearly has -
i) Range Rover wheels, and
ii) Defender chassis + suspension.
iii) Series 2 bodywork + updated mods.

When was the Defender version (i.e. coil sprung) first produced? Bet it wasn't 1963!!!

On the other hand, the vehicle has clearly been rebuilt using a factory-produced chassis (factory-built = type approved??).

Snuggs - 1/6/09 at 12:05 PM

Reported to eBay.

Ar$eholes like him give the kit car world a bad name.

As it is not correctly registered then it will NOT be insured.

SVA/IVA is there for a reason.

so if you saw a lil' ol' lady being mugged by a goup of hoddies, would you just watch because it has nothing to do with you?

tomprescott - 1/6/09 at 01:15 PM

I'm with snuggs, I can see James' point bout some of our bits and bobs that fall off after SVA, but at SVA you will have built the car and know whats going on with it; selling a bodged car on ebay is fraudulent in my opinion!

richardh - 1/6/09 at 01:52 PM

better her getting stabbed than me and leaving my son fatherless.
She's had her innings anyway!

motorcycle_mayhem - 1/6/09 at 02:19 PM

Hmmm.... well lets hack the back out of a pre-72 Mini, add IRS and a Hayabusa. Hell, while we're at it, lets replace the front end with something as well.

Done?, Good!

Just take it down the road and MoT it as a Mini 1300....

coozer - 1/6/09 at 03:19 PM

TWP369Y is on the Motor Insurance Database today

The details on the MID are:

Vehicle Make/Model: DUTTON SPORTS

Clearly an illegal reg swap. Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole

Thinking about it - 1/6/09 at 08:10 PM

Could the car be presented for sva/iva as a new build?
Leaving the dodgy identity behind.

M$RK_VXRD - 2/6/09 at 02:54 AM

yes but you would need to get some recipets and build photos so you would probly need to rebuild it anyway!!

FEZ1025 - 2/6/09 at 04:48 AM

How about this one, also registered as a Dutton, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DUTTON-GT-40-Ford-GT40-Replica_W0QQitemZ260417140035QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item3ca2123543&_trksid=p3286.c0.m 14&_trkparms=66%3A4|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A200

Daddylonglegs - 2/6/09 at 07:22 AM

Funny old thing, it's not for sale anymore, been withdrawn....Hmmmm, wonder if he's had a knock on the door

Dick Axtell - 2/6/09 at 08:20 AM

FEZ1025, don't recall Dutton ever building any rear-engined/mid-engined models. Could have been a prototype, I suppose.

Does anyone know more about the history of this errrrrr.....creation??

I know of no development in this area for Dutton & they don't over on the Dutton forum either.

Also just come across this Zar one, claims to be manufactured in 1972 http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=126538&st=0
