A guy from the Westfield Owners Club forum is producing these lovely vented cycle wing front arches as seen on ebay. He is interested in doing a large bulk order for a decent price in nice shiny black gel coat. Anyone interested??

In my opinion, vented cycle wing are a fashion, not a required, and serve no purpose.

I am curious to know why "they serve no purpose", when the shape of a front wing becomes just that when a car is moving forward. Venting the air reduces the pressure inside the arch, equalising it to the air flowing around it, negating the wing effect. This is simple physics.

To put it another way, a wing lifts because the air flowing underneath has higher pressure than that flowing over top. This lifts the wing as long as the air from the two sides can meet again at the back. The vent helps to stop this from happening.

In this particular case, a wind tunnel would answer the question once and for all by comparing the two types of front wing.

If they are effective (i don't want to get into that debate) do people think it would help reduce cycle wing fatigue and broken stays?

Whats the bulk buy price then?
I'll take a pair for £80???

Arch vents are used on sports cars to reduce the pressure of trapped air in the wheel well. This is because the air can only escape to the outside.

When the inner side of the wheel well is cutaway, like on the Audi R8C, air is releaved on both sides and arch vents become unneccesary.
