WTD: 20L Jerry can in kent
bi22le - 3/5/11 at 10:23 AM

Hi,

I hope all is going well.
I need a Jerry can for my track days. I don't mind if it is new or second hand or if anybody can recommend a shop that is cheap.

Don't care too much about condition as long as it don't leak!!

Some places won't neally 30quid but I'm sure there will be somewhere selling for 15 quid.

I am in Eastbourne to day but live near Dartford. Would be willing to collect from most places in Kent for the right price.

So anybody know of a cheap shop or one they can sell?

Thanks

Biz

Picked mine up from a car boot sale, but seen lot of new plastic 10 and 20 litre ones on ebay from around £10 which is what I will be getting

I've always had trouble getting mine filled. Some garages don't like these for some reason. I used to fill my 10L ones and tranfer it to the 20L and refill the 10 a right PIA.

Cheers

I've got one you can have. Infact I have several.

Paid £10 for it. Yours for £10 and I'll give you the pick from the bunch. All 2nd hand.

A lot of petrol stations will not allow you to take more than 10 litres in containers as that is the most you are allowed to store on your premises without a license.

Really? I've got 25 litres at home. Regularly fill up 20lt can at petrol station. Never had a problem.

i went to the local garage on friday with a 20 litre jerry and 2, 5 litre cans and left with them all full, didn't even get questioned.

of course, it all depends on whether the petrol stations employees know the rules, but yes there are limits. this site says 2x 10 litres containers, each with a MAXIMUM capacity of 10 litres

Storage
What is the limit of the amount of petrol I can store for domestic use?
The Petroleum Spirit (Motor Vehicles etc.) Regulations 1929 and the Petroleum Spirit (Plastic Containers) Regulations 1982 limit the amount of petrol that can be kept in a domestic garage or within six metres of a building (e.g. most domestic driveways). The limit is a maximum of two suitable metal containers each of a maximum capacity of ten litres or two plastic containers (which have to be of an approved design) each of a maximum capacity of five litres. These limits also apply to any containers kept in a vehicle parked in the garage or on the driveway (but not to the internal fuel tank of the vehicle). Under no circumstances should the petrol containers be stored in the home itself.

so, yes, you shouldn't really be using 20 litre cans. but of course, who's ever going to arrest you for it? not really going to happen, unless there's some sort of accident, to which you'll probably be held responisble for it

Got mine from machinemart

Cheers for the replies.

Ben I may take you up on that offer but I may of been able to ponce one from my mate for Thursday. If I get one by then the urgency is dramatically reduced. Although I feel a road trip to Margate with this weather seems like a nice idea!!

Cheers all,

Biz
