to understand why i'm spending my gold coins on this project and not my car il let you how i have got to this point...

last january my friends dad was posted to scotland with the RAF (from cambridge) and the whole family, apart from my friend moved to scotland, leaving the 5 bed house and very large car port behind with my friend, this was going to be the case for 3 years so i asked my friend and his parents if i could build my car in there car port... and they said yes

last may/june i picked up my kit from mev and got cracking!

All was good untill december ,when 2 years early my friends family moved back home and i have to shift the car part built

so i have started to build this...

not great pics and i know it won't win any prizes for design but its 15 feet long and 12 feet wide, has lighting and the bit of the roof i have done so far is water tight, and best of all iv built it my self

once the roof is finished (this weekend i hope) i can start on the walls and then turn my garden fence pannel into a gate to get the car in and out.

And the grass floor will stop any nuts that you might drop from rolling away.

yes the grass floor has many applications... from catching nuts and bolts to getting rid of spilt oil and petrol

i have a number of large thick rubber mats to put down as i can't afford concreat or slabs to put down.

and no there is no entrance from the back of the garden... when the time comes im going to pull down the fence

and your quite right snow is very heavy and the roof needed some extra strenth adding the other week when the bad snow hit... i can just about feel my fingers again!

i fell into the same situation as you. I started in the summer totally underestimating the build time and ended up building this over the patio. it has evolved a bit from this. it now has perspex windows and all the sides are boxed in. its lasted a winter so far. can get a bit damp on the floor in the corners but stays pretty dry in general. i had to put a couple of poles up when it snowed because of the weight.







all in its cost me about £100 for a 16ft x13ft shelter by raiding the bargain bucket in b&q warehouse and scrounging offcuts and screws from various people.


P.S. my car will be going through the house in bits in to a rented garage for final build up. im just too tight to pay for a rented garage until i really need one.

dam... £100 mine is not so locost then at £300 the wood to make the frame was £150 on its own.

If i bring any parts of the car inside the house my girlfriend will make me sleep outside... and thats before i finish the roof!

Theres a builder in Scotland called Scotlad who built his car on the patio and lawn in the middle of winter.........His toolbox was the lawn He only got his garage after he had the car for ages

i'm more of a fair weather builder
there will be a nice big heater in there once iv finished.
