Not anything to do with Locost but any West of Scotland Locosters might like to sign the petition on the Downing Street website to stop Tesco's totally oversized hypermarket development in Glasgow Partick.

This developmemnt will ruin Glasgow's West End and cause traffic chaos.

have you been down the clydeside exspress way in the last few weeks i was shocked they have flatteded the whole area from the secc to the clyde tunnel.

I spent the first thirty five or so years of my life living near Byres road - shopped in Safeways (or Presto I think it was long ago), had coffee in the Grosvenor cafe (I even remember its original location where the underground is now). All the pubs were sort of my locals.

I've been away for about seven years or so now. The place has changed so much. I can't easily make out if a big Tesco would be a good idea or not.

You think you got problems, were having the biggest Tesco in the country here in Purley. They have apparently bought up most of the land arround the old store and they will be creating new roadways to get the traffic moving. It's going to be a nightmare!

I'm afraid trying to stop Tesco is a bit like jumping in front of a speeding train with your hand up saying 'eeeer could you stop please?'. I work for an architectural practice as a Retail Project Co-ordinator for Tescos accounts and to be honest they are a nightmare....... every planning authority in the country does their best to block or at least obstruct any planning applications with the name Tesco on them but Tesco just plough through them regardless. Quite often they work to such tight schedules that new stores are even opened without planning consent being granted....and I get to sort out the resulting nightmare when the planners realise......it's a living I suppose

does that mean that Tesco risk having a store ripped down due to lack of planning? That would cause more than a wee bit of hassle.

They have had to take an extension to a store down near Stockport I believe...... I also believe they then refused to move the rubble

There are two sides to this mind you because landlords and the like who have the ear of the planning dept regularly try and rip Tesco off for as many extras (eg refurbishing parts of buildings that are nothing to do with the lease) as they can just because they are dealing with Tesco. Yes it happens to other major retailers as well but not to the same extent. It's nice to be loved
