working linky

are you going to use a 'silver top' or the later 'black top' engine ?

silver top's have alloy sumps, black tops have tin ones
also I think some people use the CVH ones :?

have to cut the bottom off and add volume to the sides (Deneo on here did one for me)

If your gonna modify it you need a 2 litre.

If your just gonna fit it then you need an escort 1.8.

Or one of these scholar sump

i didnt know the balck tops have steel sumps

tomblythr do you have any pics of you sump, with the bottom cut off and volume added to the sides, or any diagram of it please

well the bottom half of the focus ones are definatly steel (and I think the mondeo's are the same) - like this 1.8 focus:

btw - I've got the old one from this car spare, the bottom is a bit rotten (thats why I changed it) but if your cutting the bottom off anyway it might be some use to someone..........

iv not long got my lockup for my locost project an im just trying to work out what i need, hopefully just got my sierra (not had the go ahead to pick it up yet) an i was thinking engin next an what i need for it

Lots of options.

but if your sierra comes with a cvh then that will fit your zetec along with starter and other bits.

Imho the scholar sump is well worth the cash, but only gives an extra 15mm or so on the escort sump.

benjamman - 7/4/09 at 04:40 PM

thanks for the pics big_wasa

mite do that

while im messing with it is it worth putting baffle as i wana do track days

benjamman - 7/4/09 at 04:57 PM

just found a link on a forum wwith a 1.8 cvh sump conversion tubosports link
what do you think of this

big_wasa - 7/4/09 at 05:13 PM

Thats been done for a mk2 escort or the likes.

What you using the car for.

Budget road blaster use the escort sump.

Fast road / Track spend some money on the sump.

The cvh sump is not a direct bolt on. It needs four holes drilling and tapping into the bearing caps for the spreader plates.
It needs a hole cutting into the sump for dip stick.
The cvh sump will be atleast 16 years old.

And as standard its no shallower than the Escort sump.
