Hi all.
My wife has expressed an interest in helping to build my terrapin so I need some opinions on the "how an engine works" and "how to rebuild" books as I am rubbish at explaining things so she needs a simple explanation of what each bit does.
(same goes for the whole car really, not just engine)
Oh and before you say it, I know I am Soooooo lucky to have a wife that wants to learn to strip engines and weld chassis!

Basic explanation of the four strokes.

The old "AA Book of the Car was quite good" you might find one in an Oxfam shop.

My advice... don't let her near it she'll upholdter it in gingham or something.

In my experience people of the female persuasion do not belong anywhere near car's or computers.

She did a good job fitting a new exhaust and breaks to my old xr2i.
She is no average woman!

My girlfriend's been pretty helpful with my build too.
I've had her doing the odd bit of angle grinding and welding too.

I even got her to change the oil in both our cars whilst I did the Locost which was nice. Unfortunately, neither of us remembered to remove the bucket of old oil from under the 2nd car when she drove it back down the ramps so we poured 8litres of old car oil over the drive.

You can imagine how much my Dad appreciated that!

I got my little sister (12yo) to change the fuel filler pump filter on one of our tractors, which she managed fine, until it came to tightening an M8 retaining bolt and over torqued it, leaving a 150mm long bolt stuck in the engine block!

My good lady's involvement extends to brining tea and biscuits out to the workshop

and soul destroying comments like "you don't seem to have done very much!"

Although she has offered to help with the upholstery when I get that far

Easy Lads!
There is at least one lady builder on here, that did her build in 18 months, passed SVA first time, rebuilt her own engine, and has a race licence!
