Mid-engine and cooling system?
I'm wondering if anyone has had success keeping their car cool while keeping the rad in the rear of the car with a decent sized duct + cooling
fan?
Also, looking at Grabers' car, I don't believe I saw an aux. electric water pump, is the car actually ok in terms of cooling? I also
noticed that the piping running to the radiator was copper hardware store type piping with slip-fit joints, any advantageous reasons to use that stuff
over the traditional?
So, is it okay to have that extra piping and coolant volume w/o an aux pump? Do factory MR cars use a high vol. water pump from the factory or
what? The only thing I can remember was that the Fiat X 1/9 didn't seem to have any sort of aux pump, and the stocker didn't look extra
heavy duty or anything.
Thoughts....
-Thanks

There is no black-and-white answer. Yes if the ducting is proper and you have good airflow it'll be fine. Those are some big assumptions,
especially for airflow. It of course depends a lot on what you're building. If it looks like an F1 car you'll have no problem... If it
looks like many of our cars here I'd put it up front. If you insist it has to go at the back, at least leave provisions at the front
"just in case." I think you'll have airflow problems, unless you have a fan running on the radiator(s) all the time.

Ultima don't use an aux pump and their rad is in the front.

I've mounted my rad in the back, Its from a vauxhall Nova, so fairly small, and fitted two fans from a Honda Blackbird. I've used a
Kenlowe control unit for the fans with the stat seaed in the top hose.
No aux. pump and so far temp is stable, with the fans controlling temp between 70 & 80 degs.
Design wise the air flow is p**s poor so I installed a override switch for the fan stat.
So far so good but the car hasn't been been driven in anger yet....
Picture in archive I think.

The original MR2 has its radiator at the front and therefore the waterpump is capable of moving the coolant properly in that location. My piping is
larger than the stock lines by about 1/8".
I debated placing the radiator in the back, 2 small ones from a honda civic on either side, but in the end decided it was prudent to get the airflow
available at the front since the car will be seeing Arizona Desert heat. My car sees a 60-40 rear front weight ratio. It would probably be closer to
65-35 with rear radiators. That's a lot of rear weight bias.
That said, I can't see why a set of rear radiators with ducts and fans wouldn't suffice...
