Lotus Europa

my buddy just bought a Lotus Europa, and he's got a line on another one, I'm thinking of picking it up

what engines and gearboxes did these things have?
what kinda upgrades can be done for performance?

I've been checking a couple sights out on the net, and the chassis looks like it could use some stiffening.

I thought they(Lotus)used a lot Renault parts,gearbox-bumpers etc...
If you ever remove the front glass be sure to have a chair at hand so you can drop right in it!!!
The front pillars that hold the roof and the glass are so thin that you need at least a few hours in that chair to think about how on earth the bloody roof is kept up there.
Dont even start to think what would happen if the car is rolled over in a crash!

i think the first ones actually used the 1600 renault engine that came with the engine, so not exactly a rocket ship.
but the later modles had the lotus twin cam, keeping the renault box,

My mate came round in his the other day. He's thinking of selling (I think it's the Lotus twin-cam version) to fund some business venture or other if anyone's interested...
