On the road again!

Finally...got my Midtec Spyder back on the road, after a longer than expected engine change...was only supposed to take a week!
The cold/wet weather didn't help, as all work was carried out on the drive. My garage being full of bike and other "stuff"!
Originally had standard Ford Pinto, now has 2.0 DOHC EFI.
Decided to change just because I could!
Came across the engine in a Sierra that a mate wanted the gearbox, diff, hubs etc, and thought it would be a nice little project.

Note to other Spyder drivers...Don't try this at home! ...Modification city!

Here's a list of some of the problems encountered...

Flywheel needed 14mm machined off the face, then drilled and tapped to take Renault clutch.

Engine mountings are completely different to Pinto ones.

Diagonal chassis brace needed relocating so water pump could be fitted.

Then there were the electrics associated with the EFI system.

There were other challenges, but at the moment I can't remember them all!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

But was it worth all the effort?

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I hope so!

Not had much chance to drive it due to weather and other commitments.
The clutch is a bit "hit and miss" at the moment, but it was before the engine change...there is not quite enough throw from the slave cylinder.

Is it a significant increase in power or torque or reduction in weight? What was the main benefit? Aside from being a fun thing to do?

IIRC, Spunky - a member of this forum has a V-twin powered MidTec. Very nicely done. Has anyone heard from him lately?

I think it was an increase of weight he was going for

I did it primarily because I wanted fuel injection rather than carbs.

Just need to sort out a swirl pot because I have a fuel starvation problem when accelerating and on long left bends.

Everything else is working good though.

Just need to say how impressed I am with the guys at Luego sports cars.
Been over there this afternoon. They made a one-off swirl pot for me, while I waited.
Their welding is amongst the best I've seen!

Yeah, if I was in the market for a kit, that's where I'd go!
