Simple body work

From reading on this site its seems to me that the hardest part of midi construction is the body work. So why not make it simple, practical and not ugly? I was pondering on this idea while watching “Victory by Design” , then it hit me. The Porsche 908/3 seems to be quite simple, practical and to me looks alright. I also love the visable engine.










What do you guys think?

hi Dean
looking at the photo of the actual car rather than the model it is not such a simple shape to make lots of subtle curvres there and for a road car acess may be problimatic.

It would be a piece of pi$$ to make the former for that bodywork.
Just blend an upturned bath tub and a sideboard together and that should do it.

You'll need to "jump" into it, and a ladder to get out of it ... bodywork is easy, until you try to fit a windscreen (I just found that out, geeez)

I was just looking through the Summit Racing catalog. You can buy a crate Chevy engine that right out of the box makes over 600hp and 600ft-lbs of torque. At $12K it isn't cheap, but it sure would look at home in the back of the car above!

You'ed also need an expensive transaxle to go with that engine.

I really love the huge red arrow, as if a car of that shape would be able to go in another direction ...

Maybe it's a pointer from the pit-boss to the driver who spun to many times :-)

A classic design. I can imagine my amazement if I were passed by something like that on the Freeway! wow.

Some definite issues to overcome if being designed for street use. Ride height at the front spoiler will drive you crazy since you will not be able to enter many driveways or parking lots.

Also. Please note that some of the most difficult areas of bodywork to get right are the huge flat expanses! Just take a look at the reflections on that top image to note the massive rippling at the rear...(may be due to the super lightweight construction of that particular cars' bodywork.) BTW - If you don't mind ripples then any bodywork becomes about 50% easier to construct.

The other thing I note is the lack of windshield. Not really a problem if your intention is to wear a helmet. That might be ok for you. Proper windshield selection (or fabrication) is a major design issue That needs solving very early on in the design process. Otherwise it will probably bite you hard in the wallet.
