Lengthening drive shafts/axels

Ok guys time to pick your collective brains again.

I'm using an alfa 33 engine and droping it in the back of my chassis to create a middy.... is it possible or a good idea to lengthen the driveshafts/axels that come from the gear box directly to the wheels? or better yet cut them off then afbricate new ones using the orignal alfa ends at the gear box side but something else at the other thus enabling me to use a different set of wheel hubs?

Who the f**K tightened this up!

Try: www.drivelink.co.uk

Can make just about any driveshaft you want. New supplier to the LMP!

Or, if you're feeling flush, GKN...

Best Regards,

Steve.

I tried modifing my driveshafts but the heat of welding distorted the shaft.
I would recommend getting the shafty made up.

I`m getting 4 shafts made up for about £200. My local engineers is giving me at effectively cost price.

I used drivelink to shorten my sierra shafts. They friction welded them which is better than sleeving them.

A friend in our car club http://www.constructorscarclub.org.nz lengthened one Fierra axle by cutting it and machining each half smooth, then making a sleeve, pressing each half into the sleeve and fillet welding the sleeve to each axle half. he then balanced the final product. This has worked out OK. Brian
