transaxle adapters
Hi All
New to list but have been lurking for a few weeks, i'm reserching ideas for building an RS200 replica, but using a locost style chassis modded
for mid engine
I'm trying to find info on an adapter plate or bellhousing to fit a 4 cyl ford engine to a renault transaxle, any suggestions?
I had thought of using a transverse FWD engine and box, but dont think it would look right
Any help would be great

general opinion is the audi transax is better and more available,what body are you using?

Thanks for the replies
i'm planing on buying the Paul banham kit, but making my own chassis, i'm NOT using a meastro
There is another replica that uses a sierra as the donor, but they leave the engine at the front and use all the sierra's suspension
I thought of making my own adapter plate but haven't got access to a machine shop, i had thought of welding half of the renault bellhousing to
the ford one but dont like the idea as i think there made of cast iron

this one has come up before but i dont think there is any easy solution, unless you want a popular item, ie chevy to UN1.
try a search for adaptor or bellhousing, not both at once cos it a simple search engine!

Hi Adrian
You don't really need access to a machine shop, make a cardboard template, then look in the yellow pages under "profile burners"
they will cut you a piece of steel of the required thickness to match your template, all you need to do then is drill and tap this to suit your
requirements.
Profile burning is really cheap, even with them supplying the material.

Hi
I've searched the archive and had a look at the GT40 forum, but i can only find V8 stuff
I hadn't thought about profile burners, but i thought with adapter plate you have to replace the gearbox input shaft with a longer one?

not necessarily i think, cos the two bellhousings might not be the same length. if the new bellhousing was shorter than the original then there may be
some length to play with.
im gonna be trying this same thing when transplant time arrives, trying to link a rover turbo to a suitable RWD gbox.

If it's a rover turbo, then you want a type 9 and an adaptor from one of the MG or Moggy Minor specialists. I believe the gearbox configuration
only changed when the K-series was introduced.
The MG enthusiasts website (have a look at the BBS) has info on it. Look for posts by a bloke called Roger
Parker, he has converted most rover engines to rwd to fit the MGB.

Gearbox adapter
The Lotus europa twin cam had a renault box mated to a ford engine and I believe there is a firm that does a replica of the racing version type 47R
