Renault 25 v6 turbo
sorry to post twice but i figure this is more a mid engine question and didnt want to miss your collective expertise!
i have been looking for a renault 25 v6 turbo for the last few days, found one on auto trader but it had sold already for £950. Anyone know how hard
they are to find and what they may be worth?

i've found one, unfortunately its down in gatwick of all damn places. anyone know how much from yeadon to gatwick?! then no battle ax so the
hottest drive home in the world... 800 quid anyway, so not too bad. Might hurt it till its time comes, to meet the maker! lol...!
i looked on the RTOC site, very little useful about tuning these. ITs a 2.5 innit? so should be plenty of room for improvement, i think they are 200
horse as standard? not sure though, only found out about them the other day...
funny how far you can search on google and still find nothing!

interesting stuff, not read far enough yet but they seem to imply that 350bhp is possible, and that the gearbox can take it.

what about the saabs? do 9000s come with the transaxle? or can you get 900s with the 2.3 engine?
does anyone know what the best saab engine/transaxle combination is?
theres a really cheap 2.3 turbo 9000 on ebay but its an auto, would this block go with a normal transaxle?
any help much appreciated, the buggers all end soon!

I looked in some haynes manuals at halfords... i know this was mentioned on another post, but the volvo's appear to be rwd, not transaxle. the
saabs must be a good bet i recon. reliable as anything and can probably have the light pressure turbo 'adjusted'.
I saw a gearbox on ebay for one recently, was rattly but at least they exist!

been doing my homework on saabnet and others, apparently there are LPT and normal turbo versions, on the classic 900s before 90something, the
transmission is designed for 100bhp max, even on the 175 turbo versions! The lpt's are 140 as standard.
so it looks like the transaxle would be dodgy. would be nice to find out about the 9000s though, they may have better boxes.
on that thread about ren21t's, the bloke who quoted a list of transaxle cars specified 900s but didnt mention 9000s.
just remembered my mates dad has a 9000 of one sort or another, so i;ll check with him.
cant understand why r21s are nearly as powerful as the t25v6t. seems bizzare, though i guess theres more potential in the 25 with the bigger volume.

the trouble i found with audi is that the faster ones tend to be 4wd, so u have to mess around swapping boxes and checking what fits what.
id still rather find a company that make bellhousings to requirements. probably not economical making one off ones.

bellhousings can be done on the cheap with steel or ali plate, just needs to be very accuratly measured up...
if someone were to produce drawings to scale/with accurate dimensions i'm sure a local fabrication firm would be able to knock em up, just tell
em your requirements!
what transaxle box are you thinking of basing all this on? realistically you want one thats plentiful and cheap, though this appears to be the
problem. oncew the gearbix is sorted, with a bellhousing any rwd or fwd engine can be made to fit...

i would like to use the renault UN1 cos it seems popular and strong. Since i have a rover turbo engine at the mo, i would probably like to use that.
since that is good for apparently 240bhp, that should be enough for now. i think more power will cost a lot in the end.
maybe end up using a 'rice-rocket' engine?! but likewise, lots of money to get big power out of them. and cossies are steep too.
i suppose my options are either standard drivetrain from either a r21/25 turbo (<£1000), or the bellhousing conversion onto the rover lump, but the
gearbox and conversion could still be steep.
thinking about it, the r25s seem to sell well at 700 to 1000, so maybe the rover is the way forward. i think i would need both the engine and gearbox
in front of me to get the adapter made, but i arent very good at that sort of thing.
