New Project
After promising myself for way too long that I would build a car I’ve finally taken the plunge and started, well a half plunge really.
Original I started off thinking about doing a kit, really wanted mid engine, ideally if a car engine having it not fitted transversely, was in two
minds about bike power and liked the thought of sequential gears but not a small highly strung engine. Looked at MNR’s LMP project, really nice and
very accommodating in terms of engine options, also seemed quite good value for what you get. The spire GT-R has gown on me although doesn’t share the
construction detail of MNR’s but cracking value though! Riot was also a value option but really like the LMP look.
Anyway funds and time are not as flush as I would like so rather than let my dream drift another year I stumbled on what I think will be a good
compromise. Just purchased an ex 90’s supersport racer chassis and body in good condition to give me a head start over doing a scratch build for about
the price of bodywork for a new LMP kit. Anyone who knows this type of car will realise the chassis stops at the roll hoop everything rear of this
being mounted to or from the gearbox. Whist I could fit an xe engine and find second hand F3 parts to rebuild the car I’ve decided probably cheaper to
build a subframe to take rear suspension, bike engine (power, low weight and sequential box won the day) and chain drive. At the front my suspension
pickups are determined by the chassis so will probably fabricate uprights and wishbones so I can get something resembling suitable geometry.
Anyway just wanted to announce what I was doing, photo’s will follow when I pick up my parts, so I won’t send you all to sleep with any more ramblings
now. Only to say that as I get more involved in the build I will no doubt be asking for help and advice on almost every aspect

Any pictures? (Sorry just noticed the last part of your post)
As you said making a subframe to mount the engine and rear suspension from sounds the best idea. I would think using a stressed engine/gearbox
combination might be a bit too much for road use.

was it the one on ebay? if so looks like it will make a good track car, could you not direct couple a motorbike engine to a sierra or frelander dif
with just a single cush drive as engine would then be in about the same position, rather than a chain drive? be similar to when in a seven but minus
the 6" prop shaft. dont suppose it be possible to fit a dif within the existing gearbox casing minus all gear stuff. be interested to see how it
goes

You want to have a look here:

This is what Wyn (Lsdweb on here) did to a Swift!

Yes it’s the one of ebay, it’s a Nemesis supersport, plan is to do something like the swift mentioned figuring the chain diff route will be lighter
and easier to set up. Initially I will only be using it a track toy so won’t be bothering with reverse, so again keeps thinks simple, ditto will be
fitting very little lighting.
Motto for the build is “light, simple, fast”
