Suggested engine mods/change
On a Luego Velocity XT.
OK, my current enine is
1.6 Crossflow, head has been lightly ported and polished with slightly bigger valves.
Burton A2 cam.
Twin 40 Dellorto DHLA carbs.
Lightened flywhhel
Frankly it feels a bit weedy.
My total budget is around £1000 (really can't go much above if at all), what do I do, engine mods or engine change, whatever it has be
reasonably quick to do as we plan a seasons sprinting starting in around a months time.
Realistically what's the best to do with that budget in the time available.

Can do a lot in 4 weeks - just depends on the hours you have available really. Personally i'd say sell the x-flow and add the procede's
towards a Zetec conversion.
But, fitting a bigger engine might put you into the next class up might it??

Yes, probably would be in the next class up but that would also get you away from the BECs so maybe no bad thing. I don't think I'm likely
to have the same impact as Lewis Hamilton anyway just looking for a set up where I have a chance of not coming last (I probably will anyway). Just
don't want to miss half the season b*ggering about getting something that will run.

I think the biggest difference you are likely to see for your money would be driver training to be honest (not saying anything about your driving
ability there!! ). An engine transplant could be pretty tight in 4 weeks - not so much for doing the change, but getting it set up and trouble
shooting before the season.
If it was me, i'd spend a couple of hundred on driver training over the next 4 weeks and put the rest aside to do an engine swap next winter
when it could be done properly.
Concentrate on car control and getting the best from what you have now (suspension and brake set-up etc) before adding more power would seem to be the
logical way to me.
There are a few sprinters on here who will be along i'm sure

Hi
Forget an engine change at this stage, you'll be surprised how little difference it'll make anyway, certainly for the budget you have.
So go back to the basics
Remove anything that's not essential.
Add lightness!
Get is properly set up.
Bolt the right rubber on it (you on 1A's?)
Get some practice in
Go out and enjoy yourself.

Oh dear, I was really hoping my driving ability wouldn't come into it

Yes, think the Blue Book does 1A for Road Going Specialist (I'm assuming that's where kits go) tyres, all good suggestions though about
trying to improve me rather than the car (car may be easier)

Last couple of issues of PPC magazine have a DIY Mini supercharger onto Xflow build.
Would that be any use?
Cheers,

cheap and cheerful changes that could be made in a weekend.
- BCF3 cam
- 1300 pistons (increase CR)
- vernier timing gear
- megajolt
- match mainfold to inlet ports
- carb trumpets
- free flowing filter
- smaller crank pulley
then get tuned on rolling road.

ive been doin sprinting in a tintop for a while, an i have to say i agree with getting your suspension, car set up and driving skills sorted. I used
to win my class alot purely because i had spend alot on my suspension and brakes, and possibly i had bigger balls than the others in my class
get it lit
