polishing after painting
how long should you leave it? it was cellulose paint i sprayed it yesterday about 2 o'clock,
went from this
to this
i'm pleased with the result, but when you look close up, theres a few small scratches and things which need polishing out.
may mate just wanted the colour to match wasn't tooooo concerned about the finish, and above all, cheap. only cost about £15 in paint, thinners
and sand paper. sure i could have used filler primer, but that would just have bumped up the cost.
so how long should i leave before polishing it back? i'm guessing its still wet under the surface. want to get it done asap so i can get it out

im not an expert but seem to recall that it can take a few weeks to get fully hard after spraying in garage without an oven. I had a car sprayed with
2 pack a while ago and left it about 2 weeks before cutting back. There was a lot of paint and clear coat on it, finish fairly good. Went over it with
2000 wet and dry (wet with a little lube in water), then used polishing tool and ferecla mop using G3 first followed by G3 to get the shine up. Then
finished with a good wax polish.
It was a bit scary using the 2000 and G3 as the finish went dull, however came up to a good gloss with the G10 (kept nice and wet). Ferecla mop was
about £7 when i did mine, not overly cheap but good. G3 and G10 was also about £7 a bottle.

is 3G like t-cut? nice job with the bonnet by the way, looks nice

G3 is one of the ferecla range of cutting pastes. Think of it as coarse T-cut. G10 is closer to T-cut.
Worth looking at the Ferecla website. They do loads of different products but since i was introduced to G3 and 10 ive always kept some in stock.

you must not polish it for a week then wet flat it with 2000 then g3 g6 then g10 then wax ,its not legal to pain cars with cellulose paint .
you could paint it with a roller and i could get it to look good doing it this way wetflat 2000 g3 g6 g10.(yes i did it to show a point years ago when
i worked in a bodyshop.)

awesome! cheers guys, 2000wet and dry and then G3 and G10 it is
what would t-cut do to it instead of G3? (just because i did it for a mate, not making any money on it, and want to polish it on the cheap too  )
is it5 not legal to paint cars with cellulose? i thought that was just for commercial bodyshops. i thought it was frowned upon, but ok for the likes
of me. why would places like halford still sell it?
compared to cellulose, how dangerouse is 2k (obviously it shouldn't be using the correct masks and stuff)

You can nib and polish cellulose after a few hours, synthetic after about 2 weeks (remains rubbery for ages), and 2k as soon as it cools from the
booth.
With cellulose, don't wax it for 3 weeks as this seals the surface and prevents it fully drying, you can wax other paints straight away
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

cool, well the plan is to leave it for a couple of weeks anyway now, after speaking to him yesterday. he's got a new door on the way, already in
white which needs a polish too, so we'll wait til then i think. trying to persuade him to come round and put it on his car so that it can dry
out in the sun all day every day (as long as its sunny)
