Compomotive CXR Group Buy - anyone interested? Updated with prices....

I am currently in discussion with Compomotive about organising a group buy of their super lightweight CXR wheels

Probably the lightest 13" wheels you can get without going to split rims at around 4.5kg to 5kg each.

I will be fitting 13x6 front and 13x8 rears in ET35 and ET44 offsets respectively to my car.

For most people I would suggest 13x6 rims to be the ones to aim at as this would allow fitting tyres from 195 to 215 widths and they are available in any offset from -12 to 44.

However other sizes and offsets are available:

http://www.comp.co.uk/wheels/wheels.asp?size=13%22+Motorsport+Wheels

Wheels would be available in silver as standard but other colours are available (black/gold etc)

Wheels would be delivered direct to you from Compomotive.

Prices confirmed as:

5.5x13 £78.00
6x13 £82.00
7x13 £88.00
8x13 £98.00
9x13 £111.00
10x13 £120.00

Thats each and plus VAT and carriage (direct) and based on ordering at least 6 sets (24 wheels)

So a set of 4 13x6 wheels in black or silver would come in at £385.40 plus carriage.

If you are interested let me know so I can get an idea of numbers.

Thanks,
David

strange question but at 5kg are they that light when 17" wheels are only 7kg's?

Yeah they aren't really that light as my 15x7 cast OZ's are sub 5Kg. I remember when I told Barry at Compomotive this and he didn't believe me so I sent a photo of one of mine on some digital kitchen scales.

7Kg for 17" cast wheels is good (and an example of which are OZ SuperL's )

But... you do struggle to get lighter 13 inch cast wheels around the same price.

The Caterham ones might be a bit lighter but are more money.

TD Pro Race 1.2's are no lighter

I'm sure these used to be more like £75 a corner (the CXR's) - possibly plus VAT so £450 seems a little steep.

For comparison

TD Pro Race 1.2s in 15x7 are 6.4kg in 14x7 are 5.4kg

OZ Superleggera (which are their lightest) 15x7 are 5.2kg corner

You wil not find lighter 13" rims for the same money anywhere.

A set of all 6" wide would be cheaper. Expecting to be around £350 based on 6 sets or so

I need to know numbers so I can get a final price though. I dont want any commitment at the moment as the price obviously isnt fixed but an idea of if anyone is interested would be nice.

I weighed some SuperL's at 4.9kg on some fairly accurate scales but who cares about a few hundred grams.

I wasn't being funny wrt the price I'm sure you'll get a decent deal just pointing out what I think they've sold for in the past. As you say mixing up 6 and 8 inch rims with custom offsets probably incerase the price. Is it Barry that you're dealing with?

Not wanting to wee on your parade Flak
but one was run very recently by damdy cash across this and blat chat westham ect.

He got a hell of a lot of inquiry's and only a few bods took it up......
Lots of little boys asked there mothers/wife and were told no......
Only the real men got the deal.

The good thing was I got his minilites in 13".
We had to mod the dedion ears on the cat to clear the rims and the ARB. Hence the reason I am able to tell you this...
cheers paddy
Ps Athoirs has wheels like these on his indy and he had a modification to do to get them to fit the rears (disc)

Yep, I know he did and I enquired about it then. I couldnt do it at the time due to money constraints.

If there is no takers then fair enough. Just thought I would offer the opportunity while I am talking to them thats all

I can also get a good deal on Toyo R888's at the moment.

David

Sorry slighty ot but I think they quote the average weight, some are weigh more others less, my 17" were 7.1kg. and they quote 7.5.

Have you tried Polley Motorsport, they sold a set of 13's to an RGB'er for £390 last year.

Have a play with this:

http://www.rimsntires.com/rt_specs.jsp

Enter your current tyre and rim sizes in the left side and then play with the one on the right.

I have masses of clearance inside the rear wheel to the trailing arm hence going for a big offset as I dont have any space outside to keep the wheel in the arch.

hey there,

So what price can you get R888's for?

For 13x6 wheels. The best I have seen is £81 inc vat from Camskill.

Measure your backspace, this is the distance from the back of the rim to the mounting face. From this you can work out the offset given the rim width.

I expect they would either be ET19 (old RWD ford) or ET35 (Sierra and new FWD ford)

So far I have as potentially interested:

Chris Mason
Goaty
Hadders

and me

I would need at least 6 people to get the quoted prices though.

If anyone has any technical queries over caliper clearances please let me know and I'll get in touch with Compomotive for you.

Thanks,
David

Any more takers on this yet?

I was in contact with Compomotive prior to this thread, i need to order my wheels pretty much now, they were quoting 21-28 days as they are going to be made to order.
I'm hoping to be on the track in June, so that pretty much leaves me no time to wait.

Thanks for your efforts anyway David, as always Group buys on this forum take some getting together unless the price is a few £'s, i suppose the target build price of £250 doesn't help

Chris
