what to look out for on a 2006 MX-5 Sport
Hey up all,
The other half has decided she wants a MX-5 and after going through budget and spec have finally decided she wants a MX-5 Sport. Budget allows for a
2006 (with approx 40-50k) looking on autotrader. So what I am asking you folk is what do i need to look for / ask about when buying one of these?
Obviously checking the state of the roof is paramount but are there are any other known issues?
Cheers,
mads

The biggest problem is rust. Have a good look at the sills and rear arches.

Hi,
I read the info. below when researching woodruff keys so it may not be correct:
Apparently the earlier engines had some shortcomings and these have four holes (slots) in the crank pulley - those with eight slots are called
"long nose" engines which overcome these short comings and are much better.
If true this is a simple check to make.

I think this only relates to the 1.6 engine in the first couple of years of manufacture - ie around the early to mid nineties.

Watch out for hair clips and hair spray, they take your eyes (with plenty mascara) off the road...
