I used the loop but cut so there's a shorter side and a longer side.
The shorter side goes as near vertical as possible to the vertical roll-bar tube and the longer side sits along the horizontal one.
That was because my gut feel was it would be stronger as there's more contact area to weld.
However it does depend on there being enough extra height.

All the help I can get before starting up the welder. I am getting about 120mm increase. Your advice about the vertical is valid. I am pondering diagonal cross brace to passenger foot well strong point (which can be removed). I don't know what martial to order any ideas?

Pic's would be great, can you post here?

I have asked Jeremy for advice on cross brace material.
