Dimensions on a clasic VW Type 1 boxer
HI
Any body got some info of the dimensions and weight of the VW Type 1 air-cooled 4 cylinder boxer and its gearbox (transaxel or what would be its
proper name).
Or where i could find it on the net.
Thanks
/Jo

By chance I have the engine and trans out of the car at the moment.
I have somewhere some good records on engine weight... but I can't find them. From memory, when you bolt the engine together it weighs about
75kg, then grows to just over 100 kg with cooling, flywheel, carbs, alt etc. heat exchangers add more.alternator, cooling etc on it. depends a bit on
what crank you have in. A full circle crank is way heavier then the std one.
Just weighted the trans. It's about 50kg with oil and axles and CVs attached. The axles are quite heavy.
width of engine is about 760mm
length of engine from mating flange to pully is about 380mm
trans is about 670mm long from mating flange to end of selector shaft.
axles are about 190mm from the mating flange.
email me at brianworboys@gmail.com if you want any other dimensions.
Cheers, Brian
