Broadband + Phone Calls - Which ISP
I currently use a dial-up internet connection from Tiscali.
My home internet useage is very light but dial-up speed makes some sites almost impossible so I'm having to consider moving to broadband
(despite being Tight!).
I'm happy to combine this with 'phone calls and, before all their reported problems, was going to go with Talk Talk but I live in a
semi-rural area which they don't cover.
Just been looking at Pipex Mini but does anyone have any recommendations?
John.

They have had some bad press, but for my money talk talk take some beating.
Since changing my phone bill is the same as it was with BT, but I get 2Mb BB as well.

Yep, I agree.
I'm with TalkTalk and could not be more pleased with the service.
Cheers

PS. You did say you could not get TalkTalk so forget what I just said.

A lot depends on your location, exchange, distance from BT exchange.
Worth looking at the ISPS/Telcos that do ADSL2 as for a give distance from the exchange you can expect twice the speed, for little or no extra
cost.
Remember you can use VOIP to make almost free calls using Skype once you have broadband.

Don't get me started!!!!!!!
I have Talk Talk..............just about!!!!!!!
Things are fine until you have a service issue and you need to talk to someone.
I have spent weeks trying to get my service reconnected after the "upgraded" me to 8MB.
I have spent minimum 40 mins on hold waiting to speak to someone (usually someone in India following a script) and once spent 6 hours one day trying
to talk to someone who knew what they were talking about.

I live in a rural area.
I use Onetel, probably not the cheapest but I have 2Mb connection with unlimited downloads, never had service issues and always get through on the
phone straight away if I have a query.
Technical backup is a normal phone call not £1.50/min like some bandits charge.

Look on www.samknows.com and see which LLU operators are installed in your exchange before making a decision.
I have Bulldog at home currently and (once installed) it seems pretty good. However, they had problems dealing with my NTL phone number (even though
it's on a BT line) so I had to have an extra phone line installed to support it.
Am considering swapping to Sky atm.

Like Nitram38 i had a mare getting the talktalk BB up and running, finaly managed (luck) to speak to someone english speaking (scouser) who talked me
through it and hey presto BB is ok.
Much faster than AOHELL because there isnt all that crappy software clogging up the PC and its saving me £15 a month so thats the indy insurance
sorted.
