RoadRat does Alexandra Road
We need a new post...
On sunday I entered the RoadRat (aircooled VW middy) in a local hill climb event here in NZ. Had a great time, except driving was a bit subdued after
a friend put his Lotus 7 (a genuine one!) into a tree and down the bank. Anyway, the 'Rat got 40th fastest time in a feild of 60 with all sorts
of Evos, type Rs, Jedis, turbo this and thats well in front.
here's the unfortunate Lotus..

And here's the Road Rat's best run as seen through the windscreen:

and here's a 206GTi just to show what the track looked like

Looks like a lot of fun, I suspect the chassis could handle a bit more power though
Shame about the lotus though it looks repairable so it couldn't have been at full chat thankfully. Hope only the guys pride was hurt.

I visited the driver of the Lotus 7 in hospital this morning. He will be there a few more days. Somehow he chipped a vertebra in his lower back. It is
not chipped in such a way as to be a serious threat, but it will be painfull and his movement restricted for a few weeks or months. Not sure what he
did wrong. Seems he found he was going into the corner too fast and locked the brakes in slowing down and the well known magnetic attraction between
cars and trees took over.
Agree on comment about more power.

Love the video - I could feel my heart rate rising and heavy breathing starting. Our season in Scotland won't start for another 3 weeks and even
then it will be cold and wet - you don't know how lucky you are with the weather in NZ
Good luck with the hillclimbing

c'mon, you could have gone a LOT faster!
Just joking with you Brian. I enjoyed your video too. What a beautiful piece of road too!
I really admire the fact that after all this time (since you built the rat) you are still out there with the 'rat' participating in
performance events.
Mad props bro, mad props. (slang for 'way cool dude!'

Sorry to hear about your friend Brian. Hope he (and the car) have a swift recovery.
